Gun problem? Add more guns!

Teachers in Texas district allowed to carry guns
A superintendent of a school in Texas has permitted his teachers to carry concealed guns to school.
The head of the school in the state's Harrold district, David Thweatt, says armed teachers would help improve security on the premises.
Teachers allowed to carry a gun will have to be permitted to carry the weapon by the district and the state and also undergo training in crisis management
Writing on a local newspaper’s website, Mr Thweatt said: "The naysayers think (a shooting) won't happen here. If something were to happen here, I'd much rather be calling a parent to tell them that their child is ok because we were able to protect them."
He added that the school's location near a motorway meant that it was more vulnerable to attacks and stated that shootings only started occurring in educational institutions after federal governments made school's gun-free zones.
The possession of firearms on school grounds is prohibited under Texas' law but individual schools have the prerogative to allow them to be carried.
The US has seen a number of shootings by disgruntled students. One of the deadliest school shootings in the recent past occurred in April 1999 in Columbine, Colorado, where 13 people were shot dead and 23 injured in a shooting spree started by two students.
In 2007, a gunman also killed 32 people on the campus of Viginia Tech university.
Brilliant solution!
Adding more ways for a student to get a gun, is the perfect way to prohibit school massacres/shootings.

I can understand not wanting people to carry in high school but...it would be nice to carry to college - at least on the way. Kind of in the situation of having to bus through some of the worst parts of town to get to school, though I think it would be fine if school security handled firearms after you bring them, kind of like a courthouse.

when i went to junior high, there where shootings and stabbings almost everyday, but then they allowed all the students to carry a legal length pocket knife, from that day on ALL of that shit stopped, fuckers thought twice before screwing with someone , they knew every kid around them was packing a blade, we're talking thousands of students, not hundreds. this was a inner city school.
it fucking works .
so i dont see why people are so scared of it,
its the only way.

You are such a yank, but you are however right, that is why no one here ever gets into fights at school if they can avoid it.Goretheglowingone wrote:when i went to junior high, there where shootings and stabbings almost everyday, but then they allowed all the students to carry a legal length pocket knife, from that day on ALL of that shit stopped, fuckers thought twice before screwing with someone , they knew every kid around them was packing a blade, we're talking thousands of students, not hundreds. this was a inner city school.

This is like a low-level version of Mutual Assured Destruction.

I'm all convinced that the "give em all a knife, no more stabbings" -system works, but I think you'd just end up with a domino effect, really. It's an armament race: if you can't bully while armed with a knife anymore, some kid brings the first gun and he's the head honcho from then on. Allow them all to carry handguns and the next king will be the one with the shotgun or tec-9.

I remember I had a teacher in HS who came from texas and he would tell us how we should be grateful of how we are treated here because back in texas they would beat you literally. He told a story of some kid who wanted to get back at like a woman teacher who would always go off on him and then like the PE teachers saw him and beat him up. The guy was kind of full of himself and I'm guessing he grossly exaggerated to scare us or some shit. He was like in his mid to late 30's too so its not that long ago.
