It's basically just STOP, GO, FOLLOW with the bonus of being able to tell your men to unmount (why?!) or tell archers to GO, infantry to STOP and cavalry to FOLLOW. In Mount & Blade I trust in sheer brute force and the "meat wall" strategy. The more men you have and the thicker sheets of metal they've got wrapped around them the better. Then just rush rush rush rush. Works surprisingly well.
I think that was the prevalent military tactic in the medieval times, instead of some sneaky, braveheartesque, swell guy maneuvers.
Well, yeah, but you can't tell them to move in formations, order ranged weapon wielding infantry to stop for a moment to shoot or specifically give a command to a soldier or a unit of soldiers. So it's RUN RUN RUN RUN hack & slash and in the end we'll see who was the victor, muahaha.
You can ask them to hold the line, move 10 paces forward or 10 paces back. Close or wide formation for your missile troops. Ask the cavalry to dismount and joint your main force. And ofcourse you cannot give orders to individual units. Do you really think that was the generals job during a fuckoff big battle?
2 releases ago, 9.something they had formations and more tactics in one of the mods, hopefully to be implemented into the 1.0 release as the tournaments, different arena battles, betting, castles, raids, etc have been introduced from mods.
honestly i'm quite impressed how far they've come since 7.3.1 or whatever when i started. it might look like only graphics being enhanced but they've been ironing out the bugs quite a bit it would seem.
From what i have seen it really looks like it could be quite a lot of fun. The fighting on foot is really cool, though you do get your ass kicked around a lot more than if you are on a horse from what i could see.
why buy when u can leech? lol.. but the game got boreing untill i relised how cheap it looked adn the travel map as some have mentioned. but the sword slashing on the horse was cool until 5hours later.. worth the download. ill pay 10bucks for a full game with better graphics. (not going to happen)
Not rilly....
Tho' if one really enjoys it I suppose that one should buy it just to ensure further development by the studio.
I bought M&B, mostly because 'twas cheap, but also because I appreciated what they're trying to do, even though they aren't quite there yet. And I had some moneys to spend.

M&B promised lots of improvements since the first versions; they sucked a lot of money and all they improved was the graphics, apparently.
