why?

because we dont know what will happen if one melts down and we can't pump concrete under it to stop it from eating its way down and conceivably eating its way to the earth's core, we dont know what would happen then, mabey nothing, but mabey it will destroy the planet, and yes it COULD do that and no its not just paranoia because its
almost happened and might happen again, the concrete around chernoybel's melted down reactor is crumbling , and we better do something about it befor we find out what happens when a nuclear meld down reaches the earth's core.

Though I do think Gore has some validity to his points, in that manmade actions tend to disrupt the way nature works, Redeye is right. Numerous substances on earth are volatile and/or radioactive.

Actually came up today in random conversation that apparently, they now have to test marble for rayon before selling it to consumers. Something about the fancy countertops and floors making people sick...

Whatever the case, we do need to be careful about how we affect the environment. It's a symbiotic relationship, and if we fuck shit up, we suffer just as badly as the inanimate world does. Nuclear power isn't the answer, to those who didn't think it obvious. There are numerous other ways to harvest energy, and I can only hope we manage to get shit moving back on track before the planet becomes a barren, charred rock incapable of maintaining us any more.
