I must admit I watched Ghost in the Shell before the Matrix, so I kind of assumed that they tried making a real-world Ghost in the Shell. They deny? :omg:

They don't exactly deny it. I saw an interview with them where they kept saying, we came up with this idea... we came up with this and that. Not once did they mention Ghost in the shell or any other source of inspiration.

I saw it when it came out like everyone else on the planet, and I remember loving the action scenes but thinking most of the rest was above-average at best. I liked the movie as a whole but didn't love it. The premise and thematic elements are interesting, and the bullet-time innovation was of course mind-blowing, but as an acutal movie it's...okay. I saw it on TV again recently and it was better than I remembered, but still not one of the BEST. MOVIES. EVAR.

Watched the second movie yesterday(Reloaded). Visually, it's amazing, I really like the art, the style and thematics, Morpheus is excellent, and some of the concepts(ie the keymaker) are great. The fight scene are pretty good, and every time you see Agent Smith it's great. It really is cool, but that's about it.

They went for coolness and it shows; I mean, what the fuck was that dancing underground scene? Bullshit.
