Jap Hardcore Gamers

What if there was a Jap alter ego of us Fallout fans? Either way they are getting a censored version of Fallout 3:

<a href="http://kotaku.com/5082637/bethesda-cens ... >Kotaku
reports that Fallout 3 is going to be altered for release in Japan. They have
translation from
Behesda's Japanese Website indicating the side-mission "Power of the Atom"
has been altered due to sensitivities about nuclear weapons there (read the
short article for specifics, we're trying to avoid a small spoiler here).
Apparently gamers are more sensitive there about the alteration, as they say
Japanese gamers have expressed disappointment over the changes.

It always makes me smile when I see an American game get translated to Japnese know that they have to get sloppy seconds now instead of us. Thanks to RISO for alerting me to this.

The moment Fallout becomes another one of those horrible subcultures in Japan, I shall renounce any past and present affiliations with the series.

Historically, anything involving nuclear explosions is censored in Japan. So that would include triggering one in a videogame.

This despite the fact one of the nukes dropped on Japan did about the same damage as an allied firebombing run, and initially the Japanese government thought nothing of it because of that.

I suppose, if we're going to treat the Japanese like this, we should avoid all references to rape while in Nanking and not throw beads at native American women no matter how hard they're partying during Mardi Gras.
