I finished the game about a week ago, and it was pretty good. Not quite perfect, because of that hideous English acting, and it would have made a whole lot more sense to just keep the Japanese voices and add English subtitles, which also would have saved MONEY, something that game companies love to do, but NOOOOO! Us 'Merricans don't like no subtitles!
Whatever. I'd give the game a B+ overall. I just hope Shenmue 2 for Xbox has Japanese voices.
I didn't want to deal with the controls, I just couldn't, it was warping my mind. There are so many good games out there, I decided to pass this one up.
I sold it after getting to the sneaking part at the warehouse district. I got tired of it by then, I was completely fed up with my Dreamcast, but one game has kept me on it all this time Skies Of Arcadia! Great game that .
The fun started to drain for me at the warehouse, as well, but I must say that it really picks up after that. It was worth finishing, anyways. But those voices... 8O I swear, I'll have nightmares as long as I live.
Yeah, the QTEs were cool. I liked the Free Battles, though.
The ending just totally rocked. (Spoilers ahead! Look away RIGHT NOW if you don't want to read the ending! Now!)
You have to fight 70 (70!) bad guys with your hella cool martial arts moves. Then, when the game is finished, you can play the 70-person battle anytime you want! There was even an online component, where you could try to get the best time in the 70-person battle and record your score on the Shenmue Passport network. They discontinued it a few months ago, though. Bummer. But there's always XBox...
