Is Post-Apoc becoming trendy?

Post by cazsim83 »

They're making a movie about the Road (great book btw), Fallout 3 will arguably be GotY for 2008 (goddammit), now they're making another PA game (info courtesy of PiP - I am alive or something like that)

I just have seen a microburst of PA activity in the last year, and wondering if I am the only person who is noticing this trend?

Oh uh! Bring out the indie attitude, and lets ditch the genre!

You are not alone catman, I was talking with my friends about this very subject not a week ago. I have mixed feelings about it, because with PA being arguably my favorite genre, I'm happy that there will be more of it for me to experience (like The Road, which was a great book) but when I look at the bad stuff that will disgrace the genre (I don't have to name any, you all know what) I can't help but feel that its just the "flavor of the week," so to speak and when the popular culture is bored with it they'll toss its raped and unconscious form in a ditch for dead, where we'll all have to be sure to find it and nurse it back to health.

We'll always be there for you, genre.

You know if it gets into the mainstream it will always be there. If they start making PA movies that everyone goes apeshit over then they will be remade over and over. There's no undoing what being mainstream does to a form of entertainment/art.

To answer the original question: of course. It is hardly a question, what with all these movies and now video games and books being made about the subject. The real question is whether or not any of it will be worth the paper it's printed on, film it's filmed on, blu-ray its programmed on.

Naw, Caz, I see it too. Thing is, it's a helluva lot easier to have someone going through ruins and fighting the occasional baddie, rather than having to create system upon system of living interaction in a metropolis.

Nonetheless, I'm interested to see how Prototype turns out.

I don't know about the game, but that leather jacket is soooo badass(sarcasm).

I think that post-apoc has been the trend for quite a while already.

Mad Max had a leather jacket. But then again, he wasn't badass, was he?

I'm waiting for Teats' book to become a huge success :chick:

Also, am I the only one who actually doesn't think FO3 is all that bad?

I enjoyed it. Not as much as the first two of course, but I would definitely do it all over again, and I'll probably dl the extra content.

My disc has been cloaked by SECUROM.

Therefore Fallout 3 has a score of zero, and can only improve.

Naw, I still play when I can. I'd prefer more weapons, more enemies, and more vibrant animation, granted, but I don't make expectations that are too difficult to be fulfilled.

Besides, DACK hates most everything about Fallout post Fallout 2. I had to work extremely hard to defend Tactics enough for it to seem legitimate enough, if you recall... so, so long ago
