Bladerunner came before, and he also borrowed like hell from Escape From New York.Caleb wrote:No...not that I'm aware of, though his writing heavily influenced the look of bladerunner and other movies if i recall, can't name others off the top of my head.
He also borrowed from Bio Futures.
(There's even a story or three in there which is similar to Ultraviolet except without the Kill Bill craziness.)
SF and Sci-Fi are totally incestuous, so it's hard to keep track of the order of things.
They made a movie based on another Gibson short story called New Rose Hotel. Haven't seen it but it doesn't look promising.
I do stand corrected, got the interview i was trying to remember backwards I guess. Still...his work was quite influential.Redeye wrote:Bladerunner came before, and he also borrowed like hell from Escape From New York.Caleb wrote:No...not that I'm aware of, though his writing heavily influenced the look of bladerunner and other movies if i recall, can't name others off the top of my head.

And as for new rose hotel..it's somewhere buried on my netflix list..still need to see it.
...signatures? WTF?

mixed hi tech with low life
magic turdcherry
New Rose Hotel was just ok
I'd prefer something made with multiple short pieces like Heavy Metal.
Burning Chrome would have been perfect.
10 stories at 15 minutes each.
Sparse, slice of life type stuff.
Some with narration, most without.
I'm not sure...Idoru/virual light/all tomorrows parties in my opinion would be FUCKING PERFECT right now.Redeye wrote:fan of running bladecazsim83 wrote:The movie looks like somebody was a fan of Shadowrun, oi?Caleb wrote:No...not that I'm aware of, though his writing heavily influenced the look of bladerunner and other movies if i recall, can't name others off the top of my head.

Also: shadowrun lifted a shitload from gibson...and didn't really credit him at all. Even the name of the matrix, the ideas of ice and all that shit...no mention.

I think some of the internal stuff references him. Maybe.Caleb wrote:I'm not sure...Idoru/virual light/all tomorrows parties in my opinion would be FUCKING PERFECT right now.Redeye wrote:fan of running bladecazsim83 wrote: The movie looks like somebody was a fan of Shadowrun, oi?

No, I think it was Cyberpunk that directly acknowledged.
Just don't remember.
As for the films, I was thinking of what could have been made instead of New Rose Hotel.
On second thought, my suggestion may have been significantly more expensive and difficult.
Idoru/Virtual Light are perfect for now.
Destruction of the middle class... pretty much achieved by now.
At least the brink is looming.
All the nanotech, the semi depressed but somehow thriving underground market, the enclaves of society clinging to what little they have left. Always reminded me of a more grown up snow crash, really.
With shadowrun...all of the matrix ideas, the runners and deckers and shite in there...almost a direct lift. I do miss SR though, haven't checked the new edition but sounds like total ass.
