Vista

So I'm having problems with Vista and I'm wondering if anybody in the knowledge base here at DAC can help.

Basically when I try to run programs that I already have installed such as iTunes or Word, vista keeps trying to install them even though they're installed and then reports a fatal error and I cannot open the program. Rebooting fixes the problem, but it pops up again after a while.

I've done the usual, made sure anti-virus is up to date (it was) ran it, ran anti-spyware, and defragged, but it keeps happening.

Any suggestions?

Uninstall Vista and use a decent OS.

Have you got your Vista up-to-date? Make sure you run the Windows Update (regularly), since the early versions of Vista could get really, really unstable at times.

I for one have never had this sort of problem with my copy of Vista.

Update tells me I have 8 updates to perform, hopefully this will fix the problem. Thanks.

Wish I had made that decision two years ago.

Swapping an OS has too many headaches involved to bother now, I'll wait until I do a total system upgrade to start thinking about it.

Make sure, when using Vista, don't install anything under Program Files. It uses some kind of virtual folder bullshit that can fuck with most any program.

It uses virtual folders for everything. Everything is installed in one folder, you just see virtual ones to make it simpler to organize.

I got my laptop in Taiwan and it has the damn Chinese version of windows. Apparently because I have it set to English, I can't update it at all. Vista is terrible. Whatever happened to 3.1?

June 26, Best Buy will start preselling upgrade versions of Windows 7 Home Premium for $49 and Windows 7 Professional for $99 via its Web site.
