Briosfreak DAC Exclusive Interview

Post by POOPERSCOOPER »

[ Community -> Interview ] - News related to Top Story: Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls

1. How did you get started in the Fallout community?

In 1998 searching for a patch. Then I would come to see how things
were going, by the time Miroslav from NMA was being bombed by NATO
(hardcore yo) I was already checking NMA, V13 and a horrible message
board with gigantic banners called DAC, where Roshambo and Shadowman
would create some hilarious posts. Good times.

2. You seemed to have always been a bit split as to where you posted, why haven't you picked a side?

There were two reasons for the divisions on the community, on an
early stage the admins of most fansites (not NMA though)would receive
money for each click, so the rivalry was enormous.

At later stages it became a political thing, when there's a crisis
on a site an outside enemy is "created" to drive the attention off and
appease the troops. Like in Iran today, it's an ayatolah thing, and it
sucks, not my thing.

3. You joined a Fallout 3 site that was run by gamespy and were called a sell out. Why did you join such a site?

Well only Rosh and Kharn called me that, and they have been around
longer than me, so I only have love and respect for them, so that's
cool. Besides that Rosh killed a guy and Kharn head butted a fly a few
days ago, so I have to be careful with them.

When DAC moved to Gamespy I was one of the first guys to register,
and when they left I was one of the first to scream my support to
Kreegle and Killian. So I was rather confounded when they first offered
to host my Blog, and a few months later to hire me to develop the new
Planet Fallout.
They showed me that all the guys from the old times were gone, and that I would work for IGN, not Gamespy specifically.

So getting a symbolic pay to do what I was doing for free seemed
like the dream part time gig anyone on the Fallout community would
want. It turned out to be more work heavy than I thought, but it has
come up fine.

When you need stuff at just mail us, we love you guys (and girl, and that Romanian transsexual).

4. What did you think of FO3 and its DLC?

Fallout 3 is better than I thought, but I still prefer the old
ones. The first DLC, Operation Anchorage was not my thing, seems the
others are more for me but I still haven't played them.

5. Why did you originally create your own FO3 website for news of
the upcoming game instead of going through a news posting route of NMA
or DAC?

It was a different thing from the fansites, to record a particular
time on the Fallout history and community. I had a spectacular time at
NMA but that time has passed, the site and I needed to move on to
different things that were required by all the changes in the franchise
and the community.

Loved the blog though, and talking real time with the fans, media
and developers was great, reminded me the good old days of #fallout.

Man #fallout rocked, it even had a freaking radio, now that was hardcore!

6. What do you think of DarkUnderlords attack on DAC?

Not content with oppressing his countries minorities the dark
underbelly of DU is trying to oppress DAC. Every patriot should fight
DU's version of the Unity!

7. What do you think of Rosh and his problem child reputation?

He's a great human being (first time someone says this about
him...) that only has two problems: first he uses the particular style
of the old school message boards and newsgroups gang, and people don't
have that context anymore, so it's hard for someone from the outside to
get past his turbulent and these days almost unique style; and a
problem that hurts him the most, and has brought problems to the
community at times, is that he's so impulsive that he sometimes attacks
the wrong target, or demolishes a town in order to save a single can of
Nuka Cola in a second.

Still he doesn't need restraint, as the people outside the fansites
or in the Codex usually say, but to think things over a bit before
rushing into his killing sprees. Love him anyway, I saw episodes with
him that are priceless.

8. What games have you been playing lately or been looking forward to?

Lately? Games called "master dissertation in International
Relations, prevention and resolution of conflicts", "research work",
"translation work", "finishing my work at Planet Fallout", "divorce"
and "fighting unipolar depression". Not much time for other games
then...

My 14 years old kid (that knows DAC, although he doesn't post
there) keeps me updated with all the games going out. He's also a
Fallout 1 gamer and fan, my pride and joy.

Looking forward to Age of Decadence and Fallout: New Vegas.

9. What do you think of these community interviews? Do you think they are vastly superior to NMA's interview questions?

No

10. What do you see for the future of Fallout and RPGs in general?

MMORPG's will be the dominating field for role playing in the
future, with some room for cinematic adventures like Mass Effect or
Fallout 3. And the indies will go on making old school stuff, so no
complaints there for me.

11. What are your thoughts on Megatron and Mammas Gang?

Megatron is the role model that will lead
Brittania to the next millennium. He's a tough post apoc warrior that
will help the children beyond the purple thunderdome of boredom. He's
the new messiah, the new Michelangelo, the new Borat.

Mammas gang will be remembered through times to come as a group of brave knights that farted a lot.

Internet, serious business.

Why didn't you ask Rosh about killing a man in his interview?

The formatting seemed to be a little better than the other ones, and also as I've said before its nice to get to know the old members who aren't really around anymore.

He said he killed a man and I later asked him in the comments section specifically who he killed. I think he said it was in the army or something.

Blargh doesn't want to be interviewed, he was very adamant about it.
