Higher chance for good random encounters, better chance of epics to drop on raid bosses, better chat options, et cetera.

A better chance of getting special encounters / "good" random encounters. And the increased critical chance is quite useful really. Also, some perks have LK requirements to become available for your character, Toughness (+10% DR, damage resistance) being probably the most useful one, though. For more info, see here: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_2_perks . Some dialogue options may require a certain amount of LK as well, although those ones are rare (CH and IN requirements are everywhere).

I'll have to give it a try. it's usually the stat i assign the least points to.

Someone said that LK10 will make most shots fired against you miss completely. Might be interesting for a non-combat character. Thanks all

Well the chance is a lot greater. But it's no certainty - after all, we're speaking of *luck* here.

I always play lucky characters. If you set luck at 10 (initially 8) and pick sniper perk, every single shot you make will automatically be critical. Combine it with better criticals perk and fast shot and you're unstopable and make multiple kills every round.
That's a very good reason to stop ignoring luck.
