Anybody else excited for District 9?
The trailer looks pretty awesome, and it seems to show some real originality as aliens are playing the victim in this film. It's based on some 5 minute short film and now it has Peter Jackson so maybe it will be okay. Either way looks pretty good.

I'm not sure. I can see it being hailed as a social commetry on peoples insecurities about other races and shit. But I'm not a big fan of Peter Jackson, with The Frighteners being the only movie of his I've ever really liked, and that was a long time ago. And had MJF in it.
edit: just watched the linked trailer. One I saw was more of a teaser and made the thing look like balls. This looks alot more interesting, but I still don't really hold much for it.

It looks okay, the recent trailer of it shows a lot more action but I have a suspicion that there will be lots of home video type of camera shooting or extremely shaky camera. Also peter jackson isn't directing it he is just producing it which doesn't really mean much.

it's got the potential to be really good.
I wonder if they will screw it up.
It would be nice to see a crafty combination of s-f with commentary on social phenomena.
Hope they won't go for the usual pompous tinsel. Already in the trailer there are bits that look that way (token tough guys and uber-robots etc) but there are bits that are promising.
No doubt it will be SPECTAKULAR!

Apartheid with a scifi twist. I'm definitely excited to see it, having just been in South Africa. Unfortunately, there were no aliens there at the time.
What I want to know is how these aliens were subdued and put in shanty-towns when they had a massive spaceship that probably had loads of weapons?

If you are traveling interstellar distances mass is a fucking premium. It wouldn't be loaded with weapons as whatever drive it used to cross such a distance would be an incredibly effective weapon in itself.
Or this is more mundane scifi and the ship was purchased from some used ship depot and the aliens are just a bunch of nomads or refugees.
I vote option 2.

I miss the good ol' USSA.
I hope so.MadBill wrote:If you are traveling interstellar distances mass is a fucking premium. It wouldn't be loaded with weapons as whatever drive it used to cross such a distance would be an incredibly effective weapon in itself.

Make it so the aliens are just passengers, maybe even bottom-of-the-barrel crew.
They live in a ship, operate some technology, maybe do a little maintenance and jerry-rigging.
They are not scientists, engineers, etc.
Imagine grabbing a shipwrecked sailor and interrogating him.
"How does your drive system work?"
"Err... it's a diesel thingy. You put fuel into it and there's gears and stuff..."
"How does it work!"
"How the fuck would I know? I'm the cook."
etc.
Blaxploitation? I'll look into it.PiP wrote:btw guys watch this
