1984 at the Bethesda Forums
[ Community -> Editorial ]

It's been a slow week for news, so I'd thought I share this with you. Most of us already know that the Bethesda Forums are little more than propaganda machines, and those who don't fall in line are summarily executed (banned). In a surprising move, the "moderators" at the Bethesda Forums have <a href="http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog ... ermanently banned respected community member and honorary DAC admin Ausir from the boards. This comes as a surprise because Ausir is a respecte community member of both the real Fallout community and the Bethesda community. Here's what Ausir had to say:

Hah, I've just been permanently banned from Bethesda forum. I've been temporarily banned before, but this time I was permbanned for... excessive linking to The Vault. And yes, I actually did link to the wiki just for the sake of it sometimes, but after being told not to, I posted links in threads where the links were actually relevant, and mostly as "further reading" in addition to writing an actual short answer to the question. They're also quoting my copypaste about the timeline divergence, which explains what the Fallout universe is about and which I've been using in the forum for a year or so every time a clueless person was asking the same question again, as proof of excessive linking. Funny that other users are free to link to The Vault, and often do so, simply to the main page as a universal answer to all questions, while I only linked to the articles/newsposts/FAQs relevant to a given thread.

Oh well, if they don't want me posting there, it's their choice. I'd say that their moderation policies are pretty silly, though, in many cases. Too bad that the official Fallout: New Vegas forum will also likely be in the Bethesda forum as well, though.

Update: Looks like part of the reason for the ban was also me posting details about Interplay's countersuit against Bethesda in the forum, at least that's what I was told by a moderator. Sounds more like the real reason to me.

It really seems as though the Bethesda team were grabbing at straws for a reason to kick Ausir out. Anyone who doesn't play ball with the PR team winds up being ostracized from the entire system. This move seems out of the ordinairy, however, due to the fact that everyone at Bethesda seems to love The Vault so much. Nevermind the fact that Ausir actually did work on Fallout 3, so it's like banning one of their own employees. FUNNEH

it's been spelled out that he was banned for linking to his website so why try to label it as 'banning for different opinion'? I don't get it
Anyhow, it's hardly surprising that Bethesda, being serious business, doesn't tolerate someone doing publicity/advertising of competitive website at their own.
Hey Ausir, sell that wiki to Bethsoft and they will be fine with posting links!
