The box
I was at the cinema yesterday and saw the shit known as Surrogates when a trailer for "the box" aired.
Seriously? So it's a family that are having problems paying their bills and a guy comes with a box that holds a button and says, if you click this button (leonard nemoy voice) someone you have never met will die, but you will receive one million dollars.
lol
Hollywood needs some new stories. This sounds like the fucking dumbest thing since Surrogates.
This movie better have some sort of huge twist at the end or it will fucking fail. Also Donny Darko sucked.

It does look pretty stupid and the preview will need more to sell the idea because as of right now its like "ok?" you press a button and someone dies hope that helps. Either way when it comes out and nothing else is interesting playing I will probably see it and give you the latest scoop.

When we feel emotional pain, we experience the affective component of pain without the sensory one. Recent studies have shown that applying the word pain to emotional suffering is not just an apt metaphor but a correct neurological description. In these studies, scientists inflicted pain on volunteers (though not to a degree that alarmed university ethics committees). At UCLA, Matthew Lieberman and colleagues inflicted emotional pain on volunteers while they were scanned by functional magnetic-resonance imaging (fMRI). Subjects played a computer game of "cyberball," which simulated tossing a ball among three players. The other "players" turned nasty, tossing only to each other and excluding the player being scanned. Subjects who indicated that they were upset at the unfair treatment had significantly higher activity in the part of the anterior cingulate that also activated during physical pain.
Tania Singer and her colleagues at the University College of London found similar results when they recruited couples in loving relationships and gave them electric shocks. A partner's brain would be scanned while observing the loved one being shocked—thereby monitoring emotional empathy for the physical pain of others. The results showed that emotional pain corresponded with the affective component of pain but not the sensory.
In addition, both the Lieberman and Singer studies found that emotional pain correlated with activation in the insula, a part of the brain that monitors the internal organs. (This seems to correspond with the sense of emotional unease we call having "gut feelings." Since internal organs cannot directly sense the outside world, they are likely responding to brain activity.)

That psychological study, and another study as well (which I won't "spam" here), were vital pieces to understanding the human psyche and how relationships and pain affect an individual's empathy, compassion, etc.
Here, I'll dumb the original down for you:
People see people in pain - stop - given option to press a button to increase pain - stop - controls introduced into study re: personal relationships or just a stranger - stop - findings varied in favor of personal relationships, and also women over the age of 25 - stop - studies similar to original in first half of 1900s deemed unacceptable for human rights - stop
Douche.
I could've sworn I saw a short film years ago with the same concept. Its just weird how they think it'll work for a feature length movie.
"If you press the button you get a million dollars and some random person dies."
"Okay."
"Alright. Here's the million dollars. Too bad you're already dead and are going to Hell."
"Aw shit."
At least that's all I remember.

It's actually based on a short story by Richard Matheson.
I also don't really see how Hollywood needs "new stories" in the two cases. These aren't remakes or some shit. These ARE new stories as far as I can tell; granted this was adapted from a Richard Matheson story, but for fucks sake, the man wrote I Am Legend. I Am Fucking Legend. Saying they need new stories when they're getting one from one of the best writers still alive is like saying Bruce Lee needed to get better fighting skills (In this case.)
How is this or Surrogates a dumb idea? I'll agree that Surrogates was not a great movie (It was decent at best), but the concept is a good one. This isn't ment to be taken absolute, as Catman said, it's more of socialogical comment wrapped up in the hollywood theatrics of a horror film. The example he gave was an ACTUAL experiment and applies to this movie nicely.Hollywood needs some new stories. This sounds like the fucking dumbest thing since Surrogates

Surrogates was a great premise, especially in today's facebookmyspacetwitter-centric world, it was just a pile of shit movie, only made barely viewable by Bruce Willis doing what he does best: getting the shit kicked out of him.
off topic? OMG YOU'VE BEEN CENSORED... yet you're still posting. MYSTARY!!!!

I really do not feel like arguing about this before my coffee so ill just say. Surrogates was shit and so is the box and I dont give a shit if he wrote I am legend, he can still suck a cock. And just because you write one movie which, was not that great to begin with does not mean you will do it twice in a row.
Cazim, you copy pasting cunt, you were totally off topic and your redneck post has nothing to do in this thread. I vote we bann you for a week for this outrageous troll.

Bruce Willis was the only thing saving that movie... for what little could be saved that is. Non existing effects, bad storyline and generally shitty acting by everyone but him.Wolfman Walt wrote:Now that you mention it, it does seem like that happens in almost every action movie he's in. I can't really think of one off of the top of my head where he doesn't get the crap beat out of him at one point.jetbaby wrote:Bruce Willis doing what he does best: getting the shit kicked out of him.
He is still OK in my book.
