JE Sawyer and Chris Avellone at Trzynasty Schron

Post by King of Creation »

[ Person -> Interview ] - More info on Person: Avellone, Chris | More info on Person: J. E. Sawyer

JE Sawyer and Chris Avellone from Obsidian Entertainment (currently working on Fallout: New Vegas) were interviewed by the Polish website <a href="http://trzynasty-schron.net/dzial,wywia ... >Trzynasty Schron. The guys give some great insight into the history of their involvement in the Fallout series and a few tidbits about New Vegas. Check out some highlights:

Question: Describe in few words, what are the most important aspects of Fallout?

Sawyer: The central theme of Fallout, which I believe should be present in any/all Fallout games, is humanity's unending thirst for war. The motivations and the participants may change from story to story, but Fallout always comes back to it. Fallout is about retro-future. It isn't the 50s, and it isn't the future -- it's a twisted post-apocalyptic vision of the future as seen through the eyes of the 1950s. Finally, I think that Fallout's dark humor is central to its character. It's a difficult balance, but the blend of grim misery and hilarity is very important.

Avellone: The three-pronged quest resolution structure (combat/stealth/speech), the what-people-in-the-50s-envisioned-the-future ambiance (this includes the PipBoy depiction) as Josh said, the free-form environment that lets you wander the wasteland, and the high reactivity based on your character build (skills, stats, gender), your actions, and your appearance/items.

...

Question: Chris, are there any chances you will join the team responsible for New Vegas after finishing Your work on Alpha Protocol?

Avellone: I'm all done with Alpha Protocol now, it's in good shape. While I work on almost all the projects at Obsidian in some capacity as a Creative Director, Fallout New Vegas is my current focus now. It's great to be working directly on one of my favorite franchises, and it's great to be working with Josh again - he's got great stuff planned, and I think players are going to have a lot of fun in New Vegas.

I'm really looking forward to New Vegas, so hopefully they start to release some more information soon. It might be later than sooner, however, as Bethesda is handling the PR for it.

You can check out the whole interview here.

Spotted @ RPG Codex

You're looking forward to New Vegas? Did I miss something or is it not just an expansion for Fallout 3?

I don't think FNV is gonna be "just an expansion", they should learn a lot from the FO3. :?
And come on it's wild wild west. :drunk:

It's going to be its own game, trouncing Fallout 3 in every way.

Where did that website come from?

Anyways I shot Chris an email asking to do an interview, I don't know if he will reply or not.

I've been speaking to Josh Sawyer, and he's ready and willing once Bethesda lifts the embargo.

MCA replied and he said he can't talk about Vegas until the embargo lifts but we can ask him any other questions we want. I think we might do that but I would like to get some questions from the fans KoC. Basically I want this interview to be the most informative about the man and anything we can come up with.

KoC can you some how make a way for like DACKers to bring up questions.

Indeed. I have a few interviews in the works as it is, but hopefully we can incorporate a bunch into a huge interview-fest. What do you think?
