I'm playing a poorly translated (just the text, all voices are original) Russian version at the moment. Even though for the most part the translation's pretty icky, it kind of adds to the feeling: I feel like an American tourist stranded in Ukraine, with people speaking in a silly manner and sometimes even partly in Russian. Gameplay is smooth and there is no longer a slow, crappy and awkward 'introduction period' where you run around with a pistol and have your shorts eaten by blind dogs. It goes straight into action. The quests are nice and the rewards are plentiful. Upgrading has been greatly expanded and it's now actually worth the investment. Hunting for artifacts has also never been so much fun. After each blowout some of the 'hot-spots', which you've already harvested earlier, will regenerate some new artifacts.Release date(s) wrote:October 2, 2009 - (CIS)

Ah, yeah, it was October. I was thinking that it came out in the end of September. Same shit, though.
It looks like you're using the original translation that came out with the first pirated editions, which really makes no sense. Bad idea. There's another translation done by some Russian/English guy, better use that instead.
The one you're using was just run through Babelfish/Google Translate. I used it myself back in October until the decent one was released. Google it up.
Here's a screenie:
There's also a bunch of mods and shit out, like SMRTR STALKER

Just completed it (with plenty enough achievements) and boy, the ending sure was satisfying. It's a truly enjoyable gaming experience. I whole-heartedly recomend it to all of you, especially if you were a big fan of the previous games in the series.
