Updated: Fallout: New Vegas preview in German PC Games
[ Game -> Preview ] - More info on Game: Fallout: New Vegas

Ausir dropped by to let me know that there's some new information about Fallout: New Vegas from a German edition of PC Games. Whether by virtue of the German language or additional information not in previous articles, this Fallout: New Vegas preview is 10 pages long. Here are the details:

Opening sequence: Courier is executed with a headshot. No ambush.

Character look creation: Mitchell holds a mirror in front of your face "I hope I put you back together properly so you recognize yourself."

Character creation: G.O.A.T. is replaced with a psychoanalysis test.

Weapons: picture of a hunting rifle included. Available modifications are scope, larger magazine and a 3rd one for faster load between shots.

Weapons: picture of a normal and a unique 9mm Pistol. Shown mods: scope and magazine enlargement. One gun shown with both scope and enlarged magazine.

Weapons: The unique pistol has a unique skin, engravings and a picture of Virgin Mary on the grip. This could mean that every unique weapon has its own skin. "These rare guns not only look UNIQUE, but have unique properties."

Weapons: Concept art of a guy in the trenchoat from the teaser wielding a Fallout 3-style minigun (It's a little bit smaller though)

Goodsprings: When you leave the Powder Ganger Quest unsolved, you'll encounter them later when they are more powerful.

Goodsprings: You can convince Mayor Trudi to ambush the Powder Gangers with a sufficient sneak skill.

Some choices you make during the game reveal their consequences far later.

Some NPC companions will have their own quests too, not only Raul.

Radar: A new yellow bar for companions is added by Obsidian.

"Caps" are mentioned as currency, not poker chips or dollars.

Hint that weapon modifications can be found in the wastes. (May be speculation)

Some statements hint that the NCR and the Brotherhood of Steel somehow work together - you easily gain access to Helios 1 by having a good reputation with NCR and BOS

Dialogue with Fantastic in Helios 1 can be influenced with a high barter skill.

Game world will be as big as the one from Fallout 3.

Avellone on game development: "We are currently working on the dialogues and places. The rest looks pretty good for now."

1. Not very cool, every new game boasts that now, and they never deliver.TwinkieGorilla wrote:Very cool.King of Creation wrote:Some choices you make during the game reveal their consequences far later.

2. Did bethesda ever research why caps where used in Fallout 1? Surely in New Vegas, they'd use gold, seeing as NCR takes over the gold mine and distributes it as such.

Yes, but I imagine there's things they don't have control over. Just because some of Obsidian's staff used to work for another company some time ago doean't mean the ongoing battle between developer and publisher has ceased.Ausir wrote:It's being made by Obsidian, by some of the people who made Fallout 2, not by Bethesda.
Anything shit/non-sensical, can and should be blamed on Bethesda.
Bethesda's over emphasis on bottle caps, nuka cola, and the 50's is their way of condensing an extensive lore or marketing purposes:
Vault-Boy
Bottlecaps
1950's music
Nuka Cola
These are bethesdas marketing tools to the F3 fanbase. What I'm saying is, the fact bottlecaps are making a reappearence, is that Obsidian have been ordered to do so by Bethesda. You think Bethesda stopped there?
This game's gonna stink like my dead grandmas rotten cunt.

Well, it made more sense in FO1 while Hub was the center of trade and the bottlecaps were backed up by the water merchants. But ever since Hub perished and water merchants lost their power position, it was much more reasonable to have some other form of currency (that couldn't be just dug up from an old Nuka Cola plant or delivery truck...), which is backed by the new super power of the area: NCR.

Hmm, in this case no one can barter Nuka Colas with their caps.
1 shiny cap=1 nuka cola=(soon) an empty worthless bottle with a shiny cap.=1 shiny cap=1 nuka cola=(soon) an empty worthless bottle with a shiny cap.=1 shiny cap=1 nuka cola=(soon) an empty worthless bottle with a shiny cap...................=
Anyway i thought The super power of that time goes around New Reno, not New California Republic ( Since they prefer to be remain isolated from the rest of the fucked world )

Actually, NCR was all about expansion and bringing order to the Wasteland. Remember the Redding and Vault City storylines where you could affect the outcome? The ones where NCR influence grows so strong that it eventually takes over both of those places?Nameless_One wrote:Anyway i thought The super power of that time goes around New Reno, not New California Republic ( Since they prefer to be remain isolated from the rest of the fucked world )

Ok, here`s my perception of view:
Yes New Reno not organized and not even govermental but i think in a time of chaos these two are not requirement for the power over the scattered humanity. There are nearly no rules after all.People around the wasteland are looking for ways for surviving or sometimes more and for what they need; endless kind of common or rare stuff.New Reno owns it if you got someting to trade&also know where to look there is nothing you can`t find; this is what post apocalyptic population wants right?...not order or a community which they can`t join or enter easily. From my sight for these reasons New Reno got the point.NCR and Vault City not into sharing, they got the raw power in their own.Biggest mammoths of the wasteland not more.

I was looking neutrally, like there are no heroes, chosen ones, agents etc. which has given to the players hand. Just making a bird`s-eye view to that time`s given area map and situations of the civilized areas.Kashluk wrote:Actually, NCR was all about expansion and bringing order to the Wasteland.
