The devil is toying with me.

Discuss the game that started it all, and its sequel. Technical questions and issues go into the Fallout Technical Support forum, not here.

The devil is toying with me.

OK, remember that annoying can't-finish-the-game-last-level-throws-me-out-to-windows problem I had? Well, yesterday I happened to come across another copy of Fallout in a store next to my house (and to think I missed it before).
So anyhow's, I've installed it joyfully, and just for the heck of it, ran to the Cathedral with a newly created character to make sure I can now access the final level.

Well guess what? I was WRONG. Still the same problem using a completley different copy!

At this point I know it's my computer (2 of them), so I'll just type the specs of both computers, and maybe someone will come across something that can cause that problem.

PC 1:
Pentium 4, 1700 mhz
GeForce 2 MX200 (soon to become Radeon 9700 :)
128 SDRAM
On-Board sound card
20GB Seagate HD
ADSL
Plextor X24 Cd-Rw
Asus X52 CD-Rom.

PC 2:
Intel Celeron 366 mhz
Voodoo Banshee
64 SDRAM
Creative Sound Blaster
10GB HD
56kbps Zoltrix modem
some unknown company Cd-Rom.

Help guys, I'm desperate here.

What OS do you use?

Fallout runs in a dos window, and the latest versions of Windows carry less and less support for dos...the latest doesn't support it at all...

Oh, the first one is using windows XP, the other one windows 98 SE. Maybe that's the problem, but if so, shouldn't Fallout 2 encounter problems as well?

F2 was 98 meant to be windows, F1 was released as mostly dos. DOS based games will not work well if at all in XP, since support has been dropped. My suggestion...buy an old IMB thinkpad with the specs nessacary and Win95 on it. Use that for your game, and for college. Should run you about 100 bucks or less.

Your OS really shouldn't be a problem(except for XP) because FO & FO2 work just fine for me on WinME. I don't know what your problem is but try a medium install instead of a full install or vice a versa.

Tried that friend...
I don't have time to try it out on my other computer today in DOS mode, I will do that tomorrow. I can't think of any other logical explanation to this.

This is really weird. Fallout works well in my comp(XP). Maybe your store has faulty copies of Fallout.

Hehe, not likely, since I bought the copies at different countries, lol. That would be SOME coincidence

Umm... This is totally out off the topic, but have you ever considered how overkilling your CPU is compared to the rest of the hardware?? :?

Man, You could get a long with a 500, 600 - propably 900 MHz maximum! Unless, of course, you do lots of complex mathematical calculations all day long, which I doubt.

Want to get all out of that Pentium 4? Buy yourself *1 Gb* of memory. Yup, you heard right, one gigabit of RAM. Then go and get yourself that Radeon. And SoundBlaster Live! Platinum. Then we're talking

There's really no need for a comp like that. Doom 3 isn't out yet

An explanation to my specs:

This computer was meant to go to my dad's office, his firm gave him a discount (a BIG one) on it, and as it was supposed to be an office computer I couldn't order a GeForce 3 with it (that would seem a bit weird wouldn't it?). So bassically, this computer is only a base, in a couple months I'm buying the new Radeon, and after that I'll get a couple more stick of RAM. The important thing for me is that I have a good base to buy some better parts on.

And for the love of God, get a decent sound card and a proper hard drive. Sound Blaster Live! Value is real cheap and is quite good.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Currently I'm going to buy the new Radeon when it comes out (considering it wont cost TOO much). Also, I'm going to get some RAM and a new sound card.

I don't intend to buy another HD currently, since this one is enough for me.

20 GB is chicken shit, man. Where you gonna store all that porn you download? :)

Trust me, you'll soon have a shortage of HD space, I have 80GB and that isn't enough.

Uhmm, having lots of games installed, MP3's, movies and other useless shit. 80GB is quickly used.
