Fallout 2 Coop?
[ -> N/A]
ApTyp of Fallout.ru sends word that some Ruskie hax0rz have figured out a crude way of playing Fallout 2 cooperatively. Naturally, there are some problems with this, but here's what ApTyp says about it:

JFalc, the new member of fallout.ru community, and Dims (the guy who works on the mapper) found this:
In order to play Fallout in LAN with 2 players using the same cached resources, you have to:
a: Map Network Drive is checked on all computers
b: fallout2.cfg is checked to make sure all paths are correct
2) if one player leaves something on the map then exits it, then that stuff becomes accessible to anotherplayer.
Who can take it.
3) Completed quests are checked for all players.
Regardless of who actually completed them.
4) NPCs, if left in one location, can't be taken by another player.
The game hangs up if you try.
You can kill them, though.
Also, you can't 'clone' your NPCs this way, meaning:
if you have Vik and Sulik and if, for example, you enter Klammath where another player already left thesetwo guys, then your NPCs automatically leave your team and stay on the map as if they were generic critters.

That's basically it. The trick here is the sharing of cached resources. Naturally, you WON'T see another player if he's on the same map.

Thanks ApTyp!

it works and some ways to cheat
...it works...
i can think of 2 ways cheating, both are below...
i'd explain how it works, but its farly simple, that and its 3am, my brian may not be working right.
super easy item dupe: i've done it, it works.
step 1. puter one, drop item, save.
step 2. puter two, enter area, pick up item, leave area.
step 3. puter one, load save.
step 4. puter two, re-enter, pick up, leave.
repeat step 3 and 4.
OR!
step 4b. puter two, re-enter, drop extra items, save, leave area.
step 5. puter one, load new save.
step 6. puter two, re-enter, pick up, leave.
repeat from step 4b or 5
oh and if you think you wont be able to kill a group of guys in an area: if the guys follow you out (der, can they), it may not work if you dont load quick enough. (if they're close behind you, you may not have much time)
i havent tried it, but i think this should work.
step 1. starting with a save out side the area, and both computers loaded with that save.
step 2. enter the area with puter 1, fight the guys a bit, run out.
step 3. enter with puter 2, THEN LOAD the save one puter 1. fight a bit then leave.
step 4. enter with puter 1, THEN LOAD the save on puter 2.
Repeat steps 3 and 4.

Duping Items?
My god! Fallout is mutating into Diablo! 8O
Pretty amazing that they figured that one out though, without the need for any external programs.
