“We’ve introduced a new dialog perk called terrifying presence, says Sawyer. “It allows you to, when someone basically confronts you, instead of talking your way out of a fight you terrorize the person who’s threatening you to the point where they all run. It initiates combat, but they all run for the hills. Some guy comes up to you and says, ‘Man, you just screwed with the wrong guy,’ and you’re like, ‘I’m going to f---ing cut your head off and wear it as a hat,’ and they’re like, ‘Holy s---!’ and he freaks out and as soon as it ends he and all of his crew just run. It gives you about five seconds where they’re just running in terror from you so you can just go off on them. But it’s just one of those things where every once in a while it just comes up in conversation and you can just lay it down.

Burning questions answered
1. Can you kill kids in Fallout: New Vegas?
Nope. “For children, I said these guys have to be very well mannered and not irritating to the player, and there has to be something where the players don’t want to kill them or be enticed to try to kill them, says Sawyer. “So they’re around, but Vegas in general is a place that is not for kids.
2. Can you drive a car in Fallout: New Vegas?
“Nope, says Urquhart. “Been there, done that.
“I really want to have a trunk special encounter, and it really should just contain the fob, jokes Sawyer.
3. Can you work in…films…in Fallout: New Vegas?
“No porn this time, Urquart says. “No fluffers.

More than one companion NPC at a time?
"One other significant tweak, besides skills and combat, is how companions (Sawyer shows off two: a soldier named Craig Boone and a ghoul named Raul) work. Sawyer's basic rule for companions is: "They should feel helpful without replacing the player -- you should maintain and command without babysitting them. But your companion shouldn't just win a fight for you." Instead of a brief and cumbersome dialogue tree like in Fallout 3, you use a handy companion wheel interface that lets you easily perform activities such as switching weapons, managing inventory, healinh, and adjusting tactical behavior. Though, since companions are more active and manageable, that means you can't simply treat them as pack mules and dump items into their pockets -- they'll likely try to use those items. "

"Wonky animations and ugly textures aren't the point; the point is that the quests and dialogue are so memorable and the game's post-apocalyptic Nevada setting is so atmospheric that all of New Vegas' imperfections melt away like the skin of a Ghoul."

"So far, we only know two potential companions: Craig Boone, an ex-New California Republic soldier now defending the town of Novak from Ceaser's Legion troops, and Raul, a Mexican ghoul held captive by the super mutants inside the Black Mountain radio hut. I live in hope that a dog once again tags along for the ride."

"Last year Todd Howard, admitted that Fallout 3 failed in some ways as a "shooter." Have you tried to improve that element of gameplay?
We're still kind of tweaking the third-person camera, but we have looked at it and made a few adjustments. And again, it's mostly like a feel thing. There are a few things about the third-person camera that can make things tricky. One of them we found is the sort of offset of the camera from the character itself, because, basically, the bullet is always originating from the weapon, and because it's like a pretty wide field of view -- it's like a 70-degree field of view -- it can produce a disconnect.
So, where you are aiming in terms of the screen versus where your character is aiming, there is a pretty big disconnect there. So we've tried to address some of that just by kind of pushing and pulling those angles and distances around a little bit. Because we have found that people here do like playing in third-person. And those changes seem to have made a pretty big improvement in the feel of third-person shooting especially. I'm sure there was another component to your question."

I like this, because having tried to play Morrowind, Oblivion, and FO3 in third person, you could never hit a fucking thing because where the camera was looking and where your guy was aiming was always different.King of Creation wrote:We're still kind of tweaking the third-person camera, but we have looked at it and made a few adjustments. The obvious choice would be isometric.gobbleykins wrote:I like this, because having tried to play Morrowind, Oblivion, and FO3 in third person, you could never hit a fucking thing because where the camera was looking and where your guy was aiming was always different.King of Creation wrote:We're still kind of tweaking the third-person camera, but we have looked at it and made a few adjustments.
