Tutors
So I'm taking a Mathematical Economics class because I needed an economics class and this was the only one offered at the time I wanted and I knew right off the bat it was going to be ass raping hard but I guess for all the wrong reasons. I planned to use the school tutoring center to get help if I needed it with the class but it's pretty hard to actually get someone who can do math and economics as it's usually just math. Anyways after I figured that the drop in tutoring wasn't going to be ideal I looked for a 1 on 1 tutor and found some Middle Eastern dude on craiglists who rests his hand in yours when you try to shake hands instead of actually doing equal force. He didn't work out since he was basically just reading the book to me and had to get a laptop and search online for some topics we were covering in class. I actually was learning stuff from him since he taught okay but just didn't really know the subject as well as I thought.
So basically I was screwed then a friend in the class knew a guy in the class who is Asian and does crazy math shit and is good at economics. I've been seeing him for a couple weeks but for some reason I don't feel like I'm benefiting as much as the amount of time I'm putting in. I'm basically putting in 4 hours a week with this tutor but I often come out only marginally better off and I don't know why.
I'm thinking that it's maybe because I'm not working through the problems before hand and then seeing him for help with it, or maybe hes not going through all the steps with me and isn't writing enough stuff down for me to see.
I'm asking DACK for tips and advice on how to get the most out of the tutor so that I can learn this stuff and feel like I'm on top of my game.
Also, teacher is a shit and so is book. Book has been okay once I've built up a bit of shit resistance to the advance notations in it but I think I will still need help outside the book.

the math in economics should be pretty simple, it's mostly the notation that's shit.
maybe check out some internet help material like http://www.ntu.ac.uk/metal/ or whatever
or just post your problems here and dac will tutor you straight to ivy league

A book recommendation: David Begg - Economics. A lot of stuff I've personally struggled with has been explained in a simple way in that book.
Other than that... maybe take extra math classes? 101 in uni math or something? That's what I did.

Well I don't think I really have time to read a book and its not really the economics I'm having trouble with its the god damn crazy math shit. I was hoping to get recommendations on how to effectively get the most out of my tutor since it would be hard to find another tutor and its already kind of late in the game.
