I tend to agree, and I'm as big a fan of MCA's work as anyone.
I'm weary of the talk and the promises and the gimmicks and the shiny toys the bullshit, it's been going on for a fucking decade. I'll believe it when I see it. I don't need to be stroked off anymore. I can judge for myself the game on it's own merits. I'm not in the ADD crowd that needs to rush out blindly on 0 hour to snatch the game up.

I'll tell you the other reason I'm not getting my hopes up. Best case scenario: Obsidian does a fundamentally sound Fallout RPG with great dialogues, tight environment, etc. etc.
OK, then what?
Then Fallout 4, 5 and 6 by Todd Howard. That's what. And we've all seen the slippery slope that is the Todd Howard school of diminishing RPG returns. You give this guy solid RPGs and it's like he's trying to reverse-engineer a FPS out of them. Like giving a tribal a rifle and watching him dismantle it and use the barrel as a blowgun.

I don't see how, even if Obsidian hits a home run (which I hope they do), Bethesda continues to feed them spin-off scraps from their table. There's no gurantee that you won't get anything but more Oblivion with Guns

And I don't want to hear the old platitude "Well, if we support this game, maybe they'll make better games down the line". How long have we heard this?

That's got to be the second best DaC quote right after St. Toxic's weed machinery metaphor.

Quit counting the sequels before they're made or w/e the old saying is.

i feel like i already know what i'm going to get. i feel like it will be a good game. will it be a good "Fallout" game though? i don't know. it's real iffy. and as Cinnabuns says though, even if what we get is good...it won't in comparison to 1 & 2 be "great" and as long as the Bethbeast is at the helm the franchise will remain in increasingly hopeless territory.

Since the comic book was made in tandem with Dark Horse I'm hoping I can buy it separate.
I'm wondering what form it'll be in should they go this route. I'd buy em both if they stuff the 'reissue' with more than the CE one.
Appearing stupid is sexier than being stupid. Although I hear stoopid was a cut perk in fallout three, but was abandoned when the devs found out it could be simulated by simply playing the game...

As they say in Holland, "Ja, Okaaaayyyyyyy."

No but you do have a good point. Take the graphics - the in-game pics have been bothering me tremendously and that seems to be a reflection of that short development window you're talking about. I don't dislike the underlying engine as much as you do but I chalk that up to Fallout 3 being the first Bethesda game I ever played. The novelty may have warn off.

I have to agree. The problem here is not that dishwashers exist and that people use them, rather that all whiteware appliances are going towards becoming dishwashers, which in the end makes for a shitty weed. :drunk:

"in the good old days..."

you know who uses that phrase?

old people.

it's a shame that time cannot stand still within our glory days. it sucks that our favorite past times are tainted by "progress". alas, it is the nature of all things. the unrelenting weight of time and it's measures. whether you accept or reject it's persistence, it never stops... not even for nerd dinosaurs.

You know the guy who still refuses to watch the three prequel star wars movies after all this time? yeah, he's BORING. I'd rather watch them all, read the books, collect the comics, and play the games. why? 'cause i love star wars.

Personally, I'd rather embrace the future of the Fallout series rather than refute or ignore it... because I'd rather not play the same 2 damn games over and over.

"remember that one time..."

say it enough, and it becomes a joke. say it any more than that, and it just gets sad.

I'm not saying everyone has to like the new iterations of Fallout, but if you've got nothing to offer but talk about how it's "not like it used to be", then you just sound redundant and trite.

tl;dr

this you. this is what you sound like.

no. if you loved Star Wars you'd recognize the prequels for the piles of shit they really are. what you seem to love is stuff with a name you identify with, regardless of how shitty it actually is. you also obviously have a lack of discrimination when it comes to playing the consumer role, and you...my friend...you and your kind are why people eat shit on their plate, even though they realize it's shit, instead of complaining and asking for a steak. nobody gets steak anymore because people have stopped complaining. and after awhile...people won't even realize it's shit. they'll say "my golly this steak sure is good!" believe me, pal...when i say that if i could eliminate every cunt like you from the face of the earth...like a Hitler of the feeble-minded...i would.

watering down your product, cutting corners, catering to an average consumer base...this is not progress. this is a fucking regression. we're not in a renaissance right now, we're in a period of fast, cheap and ugly. sure...there's always those bright shining lights in the rough, and there always will be, but don't try to convince me the dawning of the next-gen crowd is anything but a polished turd.
Personally, I'd rather embrace the future of the Fallout series rather than refute or ignore it... because I'd rather not play the same 2 damn games over and over.
of course you would. because quality and consistency is obviously not important to you. i'm sure if Todd Howard started shitting in a box and labeling it Fallout 11 you'd eat it up just as fast. hell, why not regress completely and create a post apocalyptic game of Pong? it'd be just about as much of an engaging departure.

... oh yeah, i'm new to the site.
and happy trolling to you too, buddy. glad to know assholes like you are out there, ignoring the good fight.

Fallout 3 isn't a Fallout game though is it. It's a dumbed down shoot-em up for a generation of ADHD victims who care more about iPhone Apps than drinking hard beer and seeing how far up a woman's uterus they can get their hand.

Also every Star Wars movie sucks balls :chew:

I really like sounding like a prehistoric exhibition on cretaceous theropods. The best way to sound if you ask me...

HILARIOUS QUOTES!!

and..the whole point is to point out that the new things cant replace some of the old things that were great. Sure the graphics are better, but the GAME isnt better. I havent seen anything that has chagned the way a game is played. Please post if there is something, becease i want to play it. Its about recognizing that the modern games are just repeats of older games with newer graphics.

I think the same can be said about people. (Well maybe besides the "graphics" part.)
