Josh Sawyer Plays Fallout: New Vegas
[ Game -> Preview ]

Josh Sawyer plays New Vegas while a journalist watches and tries to act interested. The video often reminds me of how like one kid willl be showing you a game but will never let you play.

If only you could play black jack here counting cards :p and get caught doing it. Fuck that would be so much fun. But I doubt that since luck is supposed to make a difference and since there doesn't seem to be a dealer that shuffles once in a while.
Interesting. AG has a bigger impact on VATS. Hopefully it's nerfed and really requires high AG. They say they put some more effort into real time combat to.
Heck this might be good. Then again they might just be talking out of their arses. I really liked the casino games though even if I probably can't count cards :p

i thought the same thing "wait, this is the fucking strip? this is the most boring and awkward thing i've ever--sigh." i really can't imagine they'd be allowed to show that area at E3 if it wasn't ready to be shown, so my guess is that's about how it's going to look. christ.Macky wrote:Bland. but then i remember, Fallout 1 and 2 didn't win me over with "graphics" or "shiny" and most of the time just had a handful of random npc's stuck in a building or wandering around, why am i criticizing this aspect of the game? they won me over with atmosphere, dialogue, npc's and quests. and none of those things have yet to be shown. so i'm still not going to cry yet.
yet.

That being the case, if I were Bethesda, I wouldn't have introduced children to the game in the first place. I hope Obsidian has enough common sense not to include them.SenisterDenister wrote:There's no way they'd let killable children slide.
Also, another thing Bethesda has done by letting children be in the game is allow certain combinations of mods appeal to pedophiles.

That should be fine, so long as they keep their perversions limited to the game. Though I'd suspect few pedophiles are tasteless enough to look for kicks in a Bethesda game, when a decent pornographic simulation by Maxis is just around the corner.Retlaw83 wrote:Also, another thing Bethesda has done by letting children be in the game is allow certain combinations of mods appeal to pedophiles.

I do agree with you in the sense that the strip looks empty. Only a bunch of over-done, over-spexed casinos. Nothing else. Not a single building besides them. No people inside, no activity. Kinda empty design content etc.TwinkieGorilla wrote:i thought the same thing "wait, this is the fucking strip? this is the most boring and awkward thing i've ever--sigh." i really can't imagine they'd be allowed to show that area at E3 if it wasn't ready to be shown, so my guess is that's about how it's going to look. christ.Macky wrote:Bland. But the graphics?
I think that the slot machine was so near-perfect I almost wet myself. The things that they did, even if you don't like the design you must agree on that it looks good. Animations are still bleh.

I trust Obsidian's abilities as story tellers to make the writing good enough for at least one playthrough, whether or not I want to fork over fitty bucks for it raises the actual question of whether or not I should wait a while and get it half off before they start releasing the inevitable DLC, or just wait for all of that to be released and then buy the Game of the Year Edition next year for the fifty dollars as a final product.

In an earlier interview uncle Feargus said the few children in New Vegas would be extremely polite and give you no reason to want to kill them at all(unlike fo3).Retlaw83 wrote:That being the case, if I were Bethesda, I wouldn't have introduced children to the game in the first place. What's your point?Retlaw83 wrote:Most adults give you no reason to kill them in the Fallout games. That doesn't change the fact you should always have the option.
Children aren't the only unkillable npcs in bethesda's game, they're just the most glaring example of unkillable npcs because they were written in a way to make you want to kill them.
Removing kids from that game wouldn't have eliminated the unkillable npc problem and it would have added another verisimilitude problem by their absence from a gameworld with that level of detail.
Given the choice between having unkillable children(that are written as to give me no reason to want to kill them) and having no children in a gameworld that will seem inconsistent by their absence I'll take the former, especially when you already have unkillable npcs to begin with.
Obsidian did the right thing in this.

It's about freedom of playing a character that you want to play. Just because you're not given a reason to kill someone, doesn't mean that your character wouldn't. Similarly, just because I'm not given a reason to help someone, doesn't mean my character wouldn't. Saying that "Well, they're not written in a way that makes me want to kill them automatically means I shouldn't!" is just a cop out.that are written as to give me no reason to want to kill them
Children were killable by default in Fallout 2 if you live in a real country. Are you retarded?Username wrote:It's about the rating, you all know it. Lay of Bethesda on at least this thing. Modding killing children should be piss easy as we did it for Fallout 2.
Unkillable NPCs are a huge fucking design flaw and should have never been put in the game.hoochimama wrote: Children aren't the only unkillable npcs in bethesda's game, they're just the most glaring example of unkillable npcs because they were written in a way to make you want to kill them.
Grand Theft Auto lacks children, and I don't think that detracts from the level of detail. And given how undetailed Fallout 3 was setting wise, children make it worse, not help it.Removing kids from that game wouldn't have eliminated the unkillable npc problem and it would have added another verisimilitude problem by their absence from a gameworld with that level of detail.
Given that it wouldn't be inconsistent - or harm the story - to not have kids in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, your point is null. Before you bring up examples from Fallout 3, the giant ants quest kid could have easily been a teenage girl to get a better emotional reaction out of the player, the Big Town/Little Lamplight thing was fucking retarded and lifted straight from Oblivion.Given the choice between having unkillable children(that are written as to give me no reason to want to kill them) and having no children in a gameworld that will seem inconsistent by their absence I'll take the former, especially when you already have unkillable npcs to begin with.
