take me with a grain of salt here, but you all do a lot of bitching. no one even knows which game this is for or what that gameplay will be like, but somehow the marketing for it has already surpassed the gameplay.....

dunno about you but it comes off like being an armchair quarterback to me.
Little late yes, but I thought I'd say something. All the products of viral marketing campaigns that have affected me personally (Nine Inch Nails' Year Zero, JJ Abrams' Godzilla or whatever the fuck it was, there's another somewhere but I can't remember) were all let downs. Year Zero was alright but honestly the hype was more fun to read about and look for than the actual album was to listen to.

Monster movie's marketing campaign I remember vaguely, they went into a big long extricated subplot that had absolutely nothing to do with the movie that didn't make sense to me at all. Then the movie comes out and it's a piece of turd.

So call me a cynic if you like. I LIKE the idea of viral marketing. The problem lies in the fact that the hype generated from the marketing is always a letdown compared to the finished product. This inherent shitiness that permeates seemingly everything these days may not always be immediately apparent, unlike more conventional forms of advertising, because there is a mystique surrounding the finished product, whereas with something like paper mario you know it's gonna be shit before you even play it.

So if they pull it off and make a game (or any media for that matter) that's worthy of the intricate backplot and viral marketing going on and rumorflinging caused by said viral marketing, that's awesome. Just don't expect me to hold my breath, man.

MadBill,

Ironically...

The Segway is super popular in california beach cities like santa monica and venice! =p
I think viral marketing is a farce.

Super ironically it only took like 3 years for it to be used somewhere by "normal" people? I like the dedication to create an account for some text that is barely a sentence.
