The combat (pve) seems even slower than WoW, but it's on my radar. Haven't made a decision yet, though.

Damn Cloud Strife has a big dick.

The backstory here is FFXI captivated me in a way that no MMO ever has since. Maybe it was the integration of regions which meant dealing with other cultures and the fun auto-translator. Or perhaps the unique job system. But I loved the kinda slower pace where people would stop and have a conversation with you if you were crafting in a similar area or something, and then maybe later you gather up all your friends you've met to help you on one of the advancement quests, which were a ball. From what I've heard FFXI was pretty much EQ with prettier graphics, but hell, that worked for me. I'm at least going to give a serious try a sequel that promises to be the only MMO coming out that isn't a WOW clone on one level or another.

There will probably be a open beta shortly since its set to release in September, just give it a shot and if you can deal with it then we can romp forever in a field of virtual flowers.

And hey, there is even turn based combat.
