wrong you obviously haven't heard of american solipsism my friend, everything outside of american history doesn't exist therefore colour didn't even exist in the outside world before the 1950s on the teletoob and then everyone started calling marijuana "green." the swedes tried to copy in '62 but they all ended up with panties on their faces. and that's what you get for trying to one up america.Mad Max RW wrote:There are color photos taken in WW1 by some French photographer.Kashluk wrote:I thought everything was black and white in the old days Nice find, sure gives history a lot more color.

Without the pre-emptive strike, it would have been a pretty gentle fucking. Instead they bombed a harbor and set themselves up for an eternity of prom night surprises.
EDIT: I'm going to admit my bias and say I have an extreme dislike of Japanese culture. This shouldn't be taken to mean I dislike people of Japanese descent; people are a product of their culture and personal decisions, and no race is inherently inferior to another.

Cultural imperialism was a big problem for the old guard in japan during the 1920s, so the backlash resulting in a quasi-fascist military rule was hardly a surprise to predict. (with 20-20 hindsight)
But like you, I must admit to severe bias as I hate american culture in general, and most americans I have chatted with have not eased the hatred. There are the occational Mr. and Ms. Awesome out there, but all in all its a terrible place full of terrible people. But this is besides the point. Japanese culture is fascinating and quite unique among developed nations. It is like a dictatorship maquerading as a democracy, but one where everyone has agreed on the norms, culture and political agenda beforehand and now just play out their part, without the need for a political tough-guy to force the issues.

Having lived in South Africa and visited a few European countries, I have to say I far prefer America. I don't think American culture can be judged by things like McDonald's and the hip-hop industry - that's just soulless multinational corporations who just happen to be based in the US and thus use Americans to peddle their shit.
As for Japan, it's the fact they behave as if their entire culture was emasculated by World War II, and their schools teach that they weren't an aggressor and instead a victim. There's a lack of openness and a scornful distrust present in Japanese culture that makes me revile it.
