“Junkyard Wars, “Weaponizers, and “The Colony.

Post by Junktown Commando »

Anyone watch these shows other than me? I admit I haven’t seen much “Junkyard Wars, but since 9/11 they’ve REALLY scaled back (fear of bad people learning things they shouldn’t know).
Personally, I love these shows (though I’m temporarily skipping “The Colony because Season 2’s first episode set my PTSD off pretty bad).

The colony season 2 is pretty good man. Give it another shot, basically they have much less than in season 1. Havent checked out the others, are they in the same theme? Survival in a post apoc world that is.

Junkyard Wars was cool as hell. It was basically two teams of engineers dumped into a random junkyard and given an assignment to make something for a series of tasks that the machine had to complete.

They've made tanks, hovercrafts, jeeps, ATV's, and a shit ton of other stuff. Next to Battlebots that was probably my favorite show in the 90's and early 2000's.

Did it bring the memories of when you fought off raiders attacking your quarantine camp?

AND they got raided much more heavily and much earlier than S1. Talk about a rocky start…

Well, they didn’t HAVE to be engineers, though engineers did generally fare better, but no it was an engineered junkyard- The producers piled that place up with stuff that good Junkyard Warriors could use.

No, you’re thinking of “Weapon Masters (I watch it, it’s ok, but it’s most certainly not Falloutish).
“Weaponizers overhaul everyday vehicles into master wag wags and try to kill each other, Mad Max style.

Oh, well ok. For the rest of you who may be interested…

Junkyard Wars carried on The Learning Channel and then The Science Channel (this was the closest thing I could find to an “Official Site).
Partly from IMDB.com (by Simon SHEARN): Each week two 4-man teams are given the task of building a specific type of machine (included trebuchets, hovercraft, rockets, gliders, cannons and diving suits) in 12 hours using only the items found in an unusually well-stocked scrapyard.
A highly unreliable source claims that Eve Kay (Assistant Producer) had the idea for the show after watching a scene in the movie Apollo 13 where NASA engineers had construct a carbon dioxide filter out of materials the astronauts had onboard. In Britain (where it originally came from) it’s run from 1998 to now; under the original name “Scrapheap Challenge, in the us it ran from 2001 to 2003 in 5 seasons. (SenisterDenister actually covered it pretty well, but since I found the information while looking for a link, I thought what the Hell.)

Weaponizers: No official site of any sort.
Mainly from gizmo do.com: “Weaponizers is a mini-series about 4 men armor-plating ordinary vehicles, then mounting them with various weapons. The men operate the vehicles from bunkers by remote control in an ultimate to-the-death Carmageddon.
Additional information from IMDB.com: These two teams build their Raod Warrior contraption then compete in two tiers of competition. First the weaponized cars have to complete an objective (blow up or defend fuel depots, for example), then the winner gets a remote operated .50 caliber M-2 (aka “Ma Deuce) on an overlooking position to support them while the two vehicles battle it out in a duel of design, driver, and gunnery skill.

The Colony: From Discovery Channels Official The colony site: What would you do in the wake of a global catastrophe? Even if you survived it, could you survive the aftermath?
Season 1 was filmed in an industrial area of Los Angeles and Season 2 is being filmed in a town in Louisiana only identified as having been devastated by Hurricane Katrina. In each, volunteers enter into an environment that simulates life after an apocalypse (specifically, the semi-fictional “Nuclear Flu which will theoretically kill 95% of humanity). The volunteers have to address security, electricity, and food.
There are 4 experts they are turning to for analysis:
Miatta Snetter, PsyD (Psychology Expert), Adam Montella (“Homeland Security expert), Dr. Ramesh Nathan (Infectious Diseases Expert), and Dr. Thomas Mackin (Professor of Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Expert).

Robot Wars!

Craig Charles was the best host of that show, Jeremy Clarkson can suck a dick. Remember when Craig Charles was accused of rape, and it turned out he was innocent.

True story.

Uh, Junkyard Wars IS Scrapheap Challenge just under the US name. (Oh, Lord… “Hide the bodies…)

Though the name is a pretty big hint, could you tell us about the show? ‘Cause I got the feeling it’s the prototype Weaponizers is based on, only they didn’t use real guns.
