First Classic Fallout

Post by Toomey »

I started playing Fallout when it was fashionable, 3 and beyond and I've never played one or two. SO which should I start with, what should I expect, etc. Also what is the price range, and just so you know I'll be playing on a Mac.

You can get both off of Steam, I'm pretty sure. As for what to expect, expect real RPG mechanics, coherent plot, better writing and a less maniacal pacing. If you're a big fan of Fallout 3 and you consider that to be the essence of Fallout, chances are you'll hate 1 and 2.

The Fallout Trilogy is on steam for twenty bucks. Don't know if those copies are Mac compatible, but any way around it you should just get a real computer.

You click click the GOG.com advertisement around DAC to get DRM free versions of the original series, complete with manuals, goodies, etc. And you help keep the lights on in the process.

Chronological order of the games:

YEAR.........GAME

2161..........Fallout 1
2197..........Fallout Tactics
2241..........Fallout 2
2258..........Fallout 3
2281..........Fallout New Vegas

Order of the games based on time of release:

YEAR.........GAME

1997..........Fallout 1
1998..........Fallout 2
2001..........Fallout Tactics
2008..........Fallout 3
2010..........Fallout New Vegas

Locations of the games:

FO1..........California
FO2..........California
FOT..........Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, (Colorado)
FO3..........Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania
FNV..........Nevada, Arizona

Note: I'm leaving Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (PlayStation) out of this, because it's mostly considered non-canon.

This, GOG before steam any day. Of course a real copy in your hands that you can show your grandchildren when both Steam and GOG are dead is better ;)

I recommended Steam because I didn't know GOG had Mac versions of things.

I've had nothing but positive experiences with GOG, including technical support.

Yep! That pretty much sums up some of the things that you can do in Fallout 1, couldn't have explained it better than myself.
