So NMA and RPG Codex aren't comprised of those hardcore elitist douchebags that hated us on principle anymore?

I don't know, I don't really give a fuck what they think.
I'm kind of a hardcore elitist douche when it comes to RPGs and Fallout though myself.

I don't really think of myself as being elitist, but I certainly fit into the "hardcore RPG" slot since I prefer RPG's to emulate pen and paper mechanics as closely as possible. I don't say elitist because I still enjoy shallower RPG's, like some Bioware and Obsidian games.

I never have liked Bethesda, though, and after I found Fallout around 2004 only to find that Bethsoft bought the rights I almost put the franchise back down, but then I found you guys after I found the Fallout wiki so I guess it all worked out.

I'll admit to being a raging console extremist (I came out of the closet). However, Bethesda makes really shitty games, and I wish there were more PC games like AoD (if it turns out as awesome as they make it sound).

To each their own, I've grown up playing on computers and Nintendo systems, I own a NES, a 64, Gamecube (which my brother stole when he left for college), and a Wii (which I took when I went to college to keep it out of my brother's hands since he won't let me have Melee or my goddamn memory card), which are about as far into the console market as I'll go. That said I've often thought about purchasing an Xbox 360 so I could have the Gears of War series and Red Dead Redemption at hand, but I feel I need more reason to spend a few hundred bucks than just four games.

You guys forget the Chodex is an offshoot of DAC created by Saint Proverbius when I ridiculed him for spamming this site with news about Lionheart. So Rpgcodex is really a Lionheart fansite at heart.

Hey StD, sometimes the masses find certain colloquialisms peculiar enough that they start using them randomly, sometimes even adapting them to situations they do not pertain to, spreading them like a virus and eventually reducing them to some sort of meaningless catchphrase they don't even understand. "Elitist douchebag" is the case here. And I know it's hardly your fault, but it makes you sound like a pimply 15y-o consoletard, with the emphasis on -tard. Like stalag.

just sayin'

You're right. It's just that if a certain "sanctimonious cunt" of a turncoat spent less time trying to "blithely ridicule" other "sanctimonious cunts" (cuntae? cunti?) and more time looking after his damn backyard, then DaC wouldn't be just a small fenced bog, where a handful of dirty old guys with white beards and sailor hats sit on their burnt lawns making sarcastic remarks about the state of the union, while pausing to sip their bourbons and soda and occasionally begrudgingly getting up to chase away the odd salesman or curious kid, pitchfork and shovel in hand. And one of them's always high. And another one is flamboyantly gay. You know, DaC.

Joke aside, I caught a particular thread which, if I'm not mistaken, saw you "treating a games magazine journalist on a first name basis". Now I know you're the one here less liable to piss outside the pot when it comes to games and that made me wonder. Are you (or were you) perhaps one of "them"? Journalist, programmer, anything "within" the industry?

Sounds like you're from NMA and don't take kindly when the kids who get picked on talk back. In my experience DAC's been on the butt of every joke between Codex and NMA, so I think the ridicule derived from DACKers is pretty justified. My wording may not have been immaculate, but the point still stands. NMA and Codex, especially the older members, almost hate DAC out of principle.

I don't know whether you think that's a sad scene or something but to me that personally sounds pretty awesome. whatevskis dawg

that's hilarious, I didn't know that (not even being sarcastic, in case you were wondering).

maybe I'm just a lot drunker than usual but I've been getting more laughs from dac than usual, or maybe it's because cakester left.

To me too. Hence joining. Hence staying. Hence the king-size metaphor. Hence (by way of zinger, I mean c'mon he called himself a cunt and no one jumped on that?) telling CN to post here rather than on NMA. Hence "Joke aside". Party hard last night, heh? :drunk:

Meh, no turncoatism, I don't consider myself an NMA-er, and really only post there because we don't do NFL or FF thread here. It's not like I'm "in the fold", ask their fuhrer, he calls me Masshole troll or some such. Which couldn't be more untrue, I'm from Connecticut, which is like night-and-day from Massachusetts in every way possible. Dude, if anything I'm a mole for DAC.

Alas, I am but a mere consumer. But I am one of those elitist, entitled hardcore RPGers. I started back in the day with Bard's Tale and Wasteland and have watched the genre/industry evolve(?) since. So I've seen them come and go, the good and bad, and I like to call bullshit on unscrupulous fuckwits like Bethesda and their ilk.

On elitism.
Some games are better than others. Some developers are better than others. I'm not talking about popularity or sales either.
I'm not trying to be a snooty prick, it's a practical matter. I have a job, wife, kids, house. I only have so much time to read books, watch TV/movies or play games. I really can't afford (from a time standpoint) to piss that time away with mediocre shit.
I'm not the type that runs out and buys games, I wait until the hype dies down, the dust settles and I can get feedback from people who's opinion I trust. In a certain sense I even enjoy following the development of games or certain developers I respect. The last 10 years as a Fallout fan has got to be the most intense shitstorm I've ever seen. From the Tactics stopgap, BOS fiasco, Van Buren cancelled, Troika's demise and their PA demo, Bethesda getting the license ... you could make a movie out of it.

Who cares what they say, most of them don't know shit from shine-ola and are only showed up because of Betehsda. Besides, like Max says above, more of it is probably about old relationships and less about site allegiance as things were incestuous as sites have come and gone.
Seriously, post-VD Kotex and post-Rosh NMA are pretty soft and in full decline as Bethtards dilute and overwhelm their ranks. There was some surprising solidarity following the Bethesda takeover of the IP

But hey, even though dackers don't seem to like sport much, toss the NFL for actual football and we have ourselves a thread. Just let the wanker united fans get off their fucking chairs first. XD

You know why I asked though, right? Look around DaC and you'll find the beth-hating horde to be mostly comprised of twenty-somethings in their late stages of study/first post-edu job, whilst severely lacking in your demographic, whatever that might be. I don't mean to mis-evaluate you, but all your input reads like something out of someone older, someone the likes of which I'd expect there to be more of and more interested in the fray (concerning the "good fight"), you know, like you.

Maybe the RPG market was never that big to begin with, maybe people stopped caring, maybe they got swamped with familiar obligations/jobs, maybe they got swallowed up in the hype and thought Fo3 was ok for what it was, giving that they see it more like a trip down memory lane rather than a game worth playing on its own merits like the originals, but the state of things is annoying.

More annoying still, especially for someone that, like me, doesn't really care for 96% of what people call RPGs when what they really are is a series of convoluted fights connected by lenghty, often disinteresting dialogue, where the only real choice you have is how you'll fight. Instead of whether you'll fight at all, like Fallout or VtMB. Annoying, because people aren't asking for any of that anymore. One that could have some impact, that cunt Desslock for instance, doesn't give two shits about the only real RPG in the bag and would rather waste his breath defending that piece of shit RTS meets TB meets mexican telenovela Dragon Age. But then we already knew guys like him have the same opinion of whoever's lining their pockets. What I'd reaaaaaaaaaaally like to know was whether he'd have written that if there had been no public backlash.
