Good movies ruined by bad endings

Post by POOPERSCOOPER »

So I watching TV and came across The Verdict with Paul Newman and it just started and I didn't see anything else on TV so I decided to watch it. It's about Paul Newman being an old forgotten lawyer doing nothing and then his friends gets him an slam dunk case but he decides to go to trial instead of an easy settlement. It was actually good and I was getting interested, I've always liked being surprised when watching something with negative expectations and being proved wrong.

I liked the movie and it was good but then like the last 10 to 15 minutes was a giant WTF and really didn't do the rest of the movie justice. It had proper building and then it felt like "damn we ran out of time lets cut this up" and it just ends. I don't really like ending that cut it too short, I like some fleshing out in moderation of course.

What movies have you watched that were either ruined by their endings or perhaps improved?

No Country for Old Men and Law Abiding Citizen were both ruined by their endings.

No Country For Old Men was a good movie and I thought the ending matched the overall theme. I enjoyed it, but that's just me.

Law Abiding Citizen is one of those movies that relies on a huge spoiler and is never as good the second time around when watching it.

The ewok ending of Return of the Jedi was absolutely retarded at best. In Bruges was a pretty good movie; the ambiguity of his state (living or dead) at the end, again, fit the theme of the movie.

No-one mentioned Blade Runner's gay ending yet? Agree with Deano on NCFOM and In Bruges.

Best ending ever = Tim Burton's Ape movie.

I'm going with They Live, just abrupt ending like they ran out of money.

They Live never had much of a budget to begin with.

As much as I love Big Trouble in Little China I think the fight with Lo Pan at the end was pretty anti-climactic.

Spot on. It's like Lo Pan catches the group on the way out and is all "hey, stay a while longer, have a cup of tea or something" and Kurt Russell goes "err, no. Also, knife to the forehead. kthxbai!". It's like Indiana Jones' knife to a gunfight moment, only the guy who gets shots happens to be the main antagonist.
To be fair, though, another big fight after the ol' lightning dude woulda probably been overkill.

Every single movie by M. Night had crappy endings, but Signs is easily the worst. The aliens are defeated by water. Seriously?

The Mist. Holy mother fuck, it was like an excessively dark and masochistic Twilight Zone ending.

The Wicker Man remake. I never saw the original, so it may apply to it too, but I doubt it. The last 30 minutes actually falls into this category, if that counts as an ending, is one of the worst things every spliced into cinema, but the last scenes are horrible retarded.

On the other hand, the bees being in Nicholas Cage's eyes quote is pretty awesome.

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, those final minutes in that film never seemed to of fucking ended. Jesus christ Peter Jackson dragged on that film, one of the longest goodbye sequences.

Whatever, the kid wanted to spend a one last day with momma. Hell, I was crying, but that's no way to end a scifi movie.
