That particular area, from what I have heard, is supposed to be pretty packed with guns. As koc was saying, the guy who was killed had shot a police officer who was at the time involved in a gun shakedown operation.

This is what happens when everyone is drunk all the time. I know they're not Ireland but the drunk-to-sober ratio in the British Isles is still record breaking in comparison to anywhere else.

Retlaw, it doesn't really have to 'make sense'. Usually events like someone getting shot by the police is just the last straw, which ignites the highly flammable situation. For some, the father of four who was shot by the police during an arrest-gone-wrong, seems like a martyr (whether of his race, his social status or just as a civilians vs. cops - type of setting). And when you're already blind with rage, ready and willing to start rioting and looting, any sort of martyr will do. It doesn't really matter if the guy shot had been shooting himself, it doesn't even matter if he's just a petty criminal. His death was an excuse - a spark for the gun powder keg.

Think of American riots, like in Detroit 1967 or in LA 1992. The riots were not a result of one man's death, but years of social injustice (or just the feeling of injustice/inequality) building pressure under the surface.

I'm unsure how any sane person could complain about social injustices in England, prior to this government they've been run by labour quite a bit. And even the right wing parties are socialists, as in most of Europe. The real issue here, I think, is that ppl have gotten used to blaming everything on the productive part of the population.
Now they're just finding a convenient excuse to, even further, steal from people who are actually contributing to society.

Less regulated guns would at least allow shop keepers to protect their property.

Just saying that it doesn't really do any good whether you have a gun or not sitting behind your shop counter if whole neighborhoods are up in flames and people are coming through the windows to loot everything that's not bolted to the floor.

But anyways, I agree with Mismatch: people are just finding an excuse to act like the greedy bastards they are. It's pretty universal, though. Finns have this way of pushing all responsibility to the government. Drunken drivers kill dozens of people - demand parliament to make laws that lower the blood alcohol content limits for driving even more, as if that's supposedly going to stop people from drinking and driving. There's a school shooting - demand parliament to make gun laws stricter and the problem is supposed to magically go away. Crazy gunman kills people in Norway and writes silly right-wing propaganda - demand parliament to make laws that limit freedom of speech and, again, the problem's supposed to magically away. Anything that costs (taxes!) or causes trouble (taking a hold of your own life!) is avoided like the plague and all's dumped to the government.

Belgium is the beer capital of the world. They are know for their drunks.

We drink sometimes in England but we prefer to go to other countries in tactical blitz groups to smash the bar in two with some wicked attainments in the order of cidrÃ©.

There was a protest after the dude got shot that turned into riots. I dont know about the dude getting shot but its pretty rare that dudes do get shot by police, then theres the whole if he was or wasnt armed, who shot first etc. but thats one thing. The riots are a little different as its spreading and shit, Birmingham had a little do today.

It's going to be interesting to see how/if it pans out into anything. maybe the army will just turn up and shoot everyone because thats what dac likes.
