I would have to agree on DE3 and, unless my standards have deteriorated, it's a solid game. Reminds me of Bloodlines, only fewer vampires and perhaps not as atmospheric or, rather, atmospheric in a different way. You're constantly making choices, some less important than others, and there's certainly room to be somewhat creative.
The things I'm so far undecided on are the main story and the skill-set available, but I'm not that far into the game so I'm afraid of saying anything conclusive. We may finally have a decent game on our hands, lads.
EDIT: As for bad things, I have but one to comment on: Jensen's voice. It's like he's channeling the "Dark Knight" Batman.

I didn't ask for a Post subject:
Allegedly, that's the V.A's default speaking voice. If so, poor, poor bastard.
Crab hands are a wonderful thing. I will have to acquire some.
If you're already playing coy with your shiny, shiny little friends, perhaps learn to better vidyagaems ?
Really though, Adam's woeful scavenging was implemented solely as a balancing method. It was, apparently, as it is now, or drowning in brass. Monochrome. Binary. It may just be me, but I find resource scarcity lends itself to far more interesting scenario resolution than the other extreme.
If all else defers success, you can blame the play-testers. It's what they are for.

As I'm sure you've noticed : one of the braver departures from the original is that the protagonist can actually shoot reasonably accurately without remedial training. Perhaps try to not play it as Jingoistic-Linear-Man-Shootening-XXIV and conserve your ammo ?Tiger Discipline wrote:shortage.

While you buying it obviously nulls the point, I'd still say that I suspect any game that garners overall praise from possibly the two most cynical gamers* on here would mean it's buy-worthy, at least compared to what dackers generally spend their gaming money on. However (if any of you are still on teh fence)...**Retlaw83 wrote:So according to two DaCers whose opinion I respect, this game is actually worth money. (...)
A concern of mine as well, but I do think it's well above its peers, for whatever comfort that entails. Another concern would be how well it stacks up against the original, as in how much of a "proper" DE it actually is. Only having play DE1 through once doesn't really help me.**St. Toxic wrote:(...)unless my standards have deteriorated, it's a solid game(...)
** Mr Cimmerian Nads could shed some light in that regard, providing he can be bothered to part with his NMA swell guy cohort for long enough to intervene. :stunprod:

The music ? The music that was, mostly due to a paucity of competition, the best feature of Adventures in Xenobiology ? Ha. No, was referring to the vacuous fusillade of 'a pity <game> doesn't feature meaningful choices like Space Waifu Quest' variants that crop up with disquieting frequency. One would think that there would be an upper threshold on being Wrong. Evidently not.

Lack of ammo is over-all a good thing, and wasn't meant to look like a complaint. Management of ingame resources is just another part of the experience, and if you just had shit-loads of ammo then your guns may as well not even require it.
Problem with the upgrade system (or maybe its intention going from the :its all implanted you just need to turn it on:) is that by the end of the game, I had everything. Everything single fucking thing.

Yeah the music, don't tell me you don't "see" the resemblance? But hey, at least they copied from the best and <game> ost does hold its own, regardless.obviously not tome deaf wrote:The music ?
Oh fuck, you mean you can't choose between "PLEASE BE MAI WAIFU FOREVER <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3!!!!!!", "Meh." and "Wallet. Door. Oh and don't forget to feed the fish." after you've porked the green alien lady? I am disappoint. Next, you'll be telling me the green alien lady isn't in the game.DESU? Still, you expected that here? Don't think much of your fellow dackers, do you? <strike>Why would you t</strike> Nevermind. EDIT FOR GREAT
Last week I made the poor choice of being in a Gamestop. I saw the Deus Ex boxes, and inquired about the release date. The guy said, "Next Tuesday. It's like Mass Effect, if you've ever played that." I then informed him that I played the original in 1997, and an awkward silence ensued.

Yeah my brother would probably make a better DaC'er than I cos honestly I prefer the PS3 whilst he PC's more.
Upcoming games:
Dark Souls
Battlefield 3
Any games that microsoft can't get their mits on with the 30 day time bonus DLC are the games I go after. I hate Microsoft and blame them for ruining gaming how I knew it. When PC gaming was very unique and consoles were the best pick up and play games that actually meant something.

So, what started out as a pleasant jaunt through the police station and into the morgue turned into a firefight and stealthy exit where I killed most of the police department. The repercussions other than cops on the street shooting at me remain to be seen.

I won't be playing AP or DX3 until I get some new gear, still running a 7yo Vaio with a 512MB AGP card. I will say this on comparisons:
The two guys I thought made DX come to life were Warren Spector and the writer Pacotti? (Almost thought Max Paccoretti, sorry Montreal.)
When DX2 came out I was totally assured that those two would make it legit...dead wrong. I don't think either were involved in DX3, I don't think it matters anymore.
Spector went on that sick run where he was pumping out the System Shocks, Thiefs and Deus Ex. When everyone back then, and even today are pumping out mindless cookie cutter shooters, he smashed the mold into itty bitty pieces with those series and really blurred the lines between shooters and RPG and pioneered the stealthy FPS. He's kind of lost it since, kind of like 80s John Carpenter...
Anyway DX succeeds on so many levels - but mostly because I think it's able to satisfy everyone with something. You can play it as a dumb shooter, you can role play, you can play stealth, good action, awesome 80s action-movie synth music, the whole cyberpunk angle, the conspiracy shit, the writing was great. I love DX and still fire it up, I highly advise checking out the graphical updates and The Nameless Mod.
Deus Ex was always great at giving multiple solutions to solve a problem based on your build (brute force combat, stealth, hacking, techy etc...). SOme of them were kind of false choices that all go the same place, and there's no real consequences in the game, but again, it's doesn't claim to be a full-on RPG. IIRC RPGCodex puts it in their top 10 all the time, and they admit that even as a hybrid, it's that good. I think because it earnestly tries to blend RPG elements and principles, instead of just saying it's an RPG and loading it with FPS elements (Bethesda) people give it more leeway.
And DX:IW,
I went back and replayed it recently - didn't finish due to some bug or lost interest, but it's not that horrible. Another victim of overhyped gimmicky shit like physics and dynamic lighting being no replacement for an underlying game system. And consolization...
I really dig a great cyberpunk RPG,
would love to see something proper done with Shadowrun or Neuromancer...
DX for me is probably in my top 5 of games stuck in my rotation, it's my A-10 warthog, as long as new games refuse to adapt to shit that was happening 12 years ago, I won't retire it.
You can't argue with a good blow job -George Carlin
Had time to try homo evolution last nite for an hour or two (was in norweh over the weekend, so I didn't get to play when I should have).
So far I'm not very impressed. The intro mission got me into a rage. But it seems to be getting better now once the game really starts... Controls feel wonky though, and its quite an ugly game. (Seems the default graphics are set to assrape ugly, got better when I upped some settings, but its still not a great looking game).
And the cover thingy is retarded.
This far Im hopeful though, it starts to show some promise... The game menus are really poor.

I like his voice, sounds like they tried to channel the original by making it really overdone. He has a true tough mofo voice maybe.
