The Double Fine game, to my knowledge, is a confirmed point and click adventure. That is not Psychonauts 2.

Well gosh. Ignore for a moment the interest displayed by Mojang/Notch. $1,000,000 in 24 hours - how could that not call into question the possibility of Psychonauts 2, even if their first Kickstarter buoyed project isn't specifically it ? Clearly, they'll just release an HD version of DotT and ride off into the draw distance. Nice to confirm that your status as a sector insider, Knud.

Also, calling it now - Planescape : Torment 2. It's contagious. Ehue. :drunk:

Backing up a little bit, what is wrong with Alpha Protocols combat? I found the crouch and pop-with-my-Samael approach to the game quite satisfying, actually, even more so than most AAA shooters, and the game didn't even require you to go gungho, you could stealth it out if you wanted to.

If I had to pick an Obsidian game with shit combat Fallout: New Vegas is the one that stands out with it's buggy implementation of Bethesda's work.

Been playing SW:TOR for over a month now. Before you read this, i want people to know that if you aren't prepared to pay to play a beta, don't grab this game. The QA team was really on vacation for this one. There's UI problems galore, imbalanced gameplay and glitched out encounters at every turn.

The game is not as well featured as most mmo's out there now either, but through it all i was pleasantly surprised to find an interesting crafting system that grew on me and a more friendly and helpful mmo community than usual (I've been playing both republic and imperial on multiple servers). And despite it's problems they have already released a plethora of patches addressing some of the more important issues.

The lore meanders from what hardcore sw fans would call 'appropriate' but its a given that some logic must be bent in order to make for good gameplay and interesting story. Like KOTOR, all the dialogue for both your pc and npcs are spoken. There is enough variety of voices to make it believable too. Although they double up for different classes that is to be expected when you have 8 storylines, still impressive. The main story is a good 30+ hour single player game. Take note, that's for each different class for each faction.

So here's hoping for more features and bug fixes. And at least it doesn't have gnomes, or pandas.

Playing a few classics, PS:T, Deus Ex, and some Dragon Knight Saga in there as well. Kinda reminds you of how the industry has been pretty stagnant with quality over the last decade or so.

Considering playing one of the Total War games again but there's something about the Total War games that doesn't rub me right, despite the epic battles n stuff. Whatevs.

What experience have you had with the Total War franchise? If you didn't like Rome or Medieval 2 then I wouldn't recommend any of the others. If you haven't played either one of those, I recommend it. Rome Total War is a great game and probably my favorite of the series.

Yeah I found Rome to be the strongest as well. Empire wasn't half bad either. I've played all of them besides Shogun: The Next Generation. Didn't really like the demo so I never bothered.

Very true. Other than the fact the "single player" behemoth (I put that in quotation because in any MMO you will eventually have to interact with someone) story questing flat out ends at level cap. Just like KOTOR.

The game is a mixed bag. Some aspects of TOR seem solidly grounded ideas and smooth as silk code, where something else right along side it is horrible and obviously rushed or unfinished all together. Mostly it comes down to the little things, backslash is a hardbound key to a function which open a customer service ticket for example. The '4' key cant be pushed with a strange combination of wsad?? WTF?

Things you don't really think of until they are gone. No macros. No third-party mods. Not even hot-key templates. Every day I play this game, i see another flaw or missing feature. Overall I think that could be an accurate analogy Senister. But I'll wait for my time to run out, hope for more fixes and keep telling myself; "WoW didn't have this in the beginning either". With the pace at which they are fixing leaks I'll say this boat isn't sunk, yet.

Edit: To be fair they fixed the backslash hardbound key stealthily in the last patch, i'm sure they had alot of complaints about that. This game is their first major multiplayer title afterall. Not sure if a MMO was a good place to start, but it is what it is.

Rome was the pinnacle, if they had rebuilt Rome with Barbarian Invasion's map design in Medieval 2's technological era [and with the inherent bells and whistles and a few tweaks that came with it] it would've been the peak of the franchise, I think. Empire was alright, but the heavy emphasis of ranged combat didn't help it along too much. Cannons and the semi-competent use of them ruined any vaguely open map as you could decimate the opposing army before you got stuck in on the fight. Also a laughworthy naval combat that, though beautiful, was still auto-resolved to skip the bland, slow, questionably fair naval addition. The Total War franchise as a whole suffers from being a generally good tactical combat game with a really fucking bland, unoriginal strategy element. I haven't played Samurai Sequel because "technology" and "poor" don't mix well. My old computer is quite ancient these days.

Alpha Protocol [just started last month, I only play here and there, I have not yet finished] suffers from [just going at combat, not pointing out the obvious] being a generic pop and shoot. That's about it. It's Gears of War with smaller magazines, much lower testosterone levels, and less enemies. Enemy AI [or the lack thereof] combined with very small areas for firefights leaves combat severely wanting. Pretty much as Poops said, the game's emphasis was on combat and combat was sorely lacking. If they had spent more time further developing character interaction and placed heavier emphasis on it it could have been a good game. I'll still support the brosefs at Obsidian, but there's a reason I waited this long to buy it, and this game would have been much more harshly reviewed in my mind had I paid $60 rather than $15 or whatever I paid for it.

I recently reinstalled HoI3 just because. Invaded some people, won some fights, got bored.

Have a copy of Fallout on the desk, but :effort: to install and play. It's nearly time, it's been several years. I used to try to get a run in once a year or so, but it's been probably ... three, maybe four or so since I last played it.

You're right about that, really changed the whole dynamic of battles. R:TW is such a classic. Jumped on that franchise when the first Shogun came out, but can't really play the newer ones due to old HW. It's definitely lacking on the strategic side, but it's been slowly evolving. I've always liked that it's a series that knows what it is, and has never strayed too far from what it does well (and not get more into economy/building at the expense of the war shit - we already have CIVs and Imperialisms etc. that cover that end of the spectrum well enough.
