I quite like this new forum app, reminds me a bit of the old 2002-2021 era DAC forums, do you guys remember those

Going for the retro look.

Anyway, the conversion's on hold until the garbled characters issue can be solved, hopefully won't take much longer.

Someone should make a movie about DaC, the website that refused to die. It will be Rocky 1, Top Gun, and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape for tech nerds, miscreants, and Australians.

I think DaC would be more like Kobra Kai with Johnny being the users.

Congrats on saving DaC, it deserves to survive, like a wanderer in the wastes.

Well, the conversion's been going on for way longer than I'd have liked. The snag with the borked characters has been handled (not fixed, just bypassed), mostly everything else sorted out as well, but then the results of all the polls were not importing for some reason.

The guy doing the conversion's also gone MIA for a week here and a week there, extending the delay further. Hopefully we can wrap this up in the next few days.

Well then.

This probably has been answered already, but...
Will all the custom smileys/emoticons/whatever still exist?

And :chew: without :chew: we're in trouble. :chew:

Amazingly enough, yes, they will all transfer. But there's really a ridiculous number of smilies/images that nobody ever uses, so 90% of them could easily be cut as they serve no purpose but to inflate the list of smilies so much that it's impossible to find anything there.

Luckily XenForo allows for categorizing smilies, so all the BS nobody ever uses will be tucked away in a separate tab or three later on. Or ditched. We'll see.

Hey Taluntain, can Xenforo's fancy "modern" forum features like upvoting and reactions and what have you be disabled/hidden on the user end? I don't mind any attempts to drag me to the 21st century as long as I can conveniently ignore them.

I don't think upvoting is a default feature like post ratings. Post ratings can't be disabled on the user end via a setting I think, but it's probably easy enough to block them with various ad blockers. Keep in mind though that by default there's only a handful of ratings ala FB, not a barrage of them like on the Codex. So by default they're not really intrusive.

Tried adblocking on the Codex, works perfectly, thanks!

I don't like them not because of intrusiveness but because they contribute absolutely nothing to a discussion (if someone reacts "angry" or "love" or whatever it doesn't tell me anything interesting, useful or entertaining), and I could complain about the social and psychological consequences of the whole thing but like said I'm perfectly happy with this as long as I can pretend it's not happening; it means that I'm able to give reactions the amount attention they deserve. (the italicized bit would be removed if this reply was a reaction instead, smash that like button if you agree)
