This movie is the true real life story of Fred "the Finger" Oppenheimer, a LA based divorcoed ex-cop turned con artist always looking for the latest greatest heist. Opperheimen recruits his comradoes from the 82th airbornoe commangdoes to rob -- and I do mean rob! crime warningn -- five casinoes in the Las Vegas dessert. They're plan: make as much money as possible ("mucho dinero" para los que hablan español). They are motivation: to get rich. Or die trying. Period! Horkheimer has only one weakness though and: that's women. So what's happen's when all of he's airborne comrades are women and he has to crawl through air vents in pitch black with nothing but the scent of a womang to go on? Gong? What heppen's? Well I won't spoil the details but a lot of hilarity but also dangerous and scary situations arise.
The cinematography is excellent. They decided to go with modern realism so all footage is shot on a shaky iphone, the experience is so realistic it makes you want to throw up your popcorn (better bring some mouth wash into the theater). It's a whole movement okay look up "vertebrae perspectivity" Anyway The whole movie was shot in vertical mode so they actually had tobuild vertical movie theaters for this movie. It's called Mahatma and it stands at 30,00 ft tall but only 50ft wide like what the hell mang? Engineers am I right or what! Weeeell What can I say the babes look bodacious when you can fit their whole body in the frame, no more cropping from the waist up like in the olden days of Oscars 1.6/7/8. This is what movies should have always looked like folks.
I didn't like the music, it sounded like someone did it in their basement and they also live in the basement. It sounds like if an italo disco vinyl was played on a sand grinder in a basement so it's pretty atmospheric but a little painful because the music never stops and it gets louder and louder the whole time. I measured 300 dB at the end, that's the equivalent of a nuclear blast at ground zero. The soundtrack actually plays for another hour after the movie ends and they won't let people out until it's finished or if somebody dies. Who said movies should be safe? I'm bringing a helmet the next time, you never know with these art nouveau type mother fuckers, unpredictable like junkyard dogs, gnawing at the theatre seats.
The cast was alright, it's got Giorgio Clooney starring as Theodoro Adorno, Bradley Pitt starring as himself and Christopher Live-Journal and their chemistry is undeniable. Some Julia+Romeo type shit.. Brad Pitt was in a horrible car crash and his face burned off before they started filming the movie so they decided to reconstruct the face with AI technology, they did a good job and I could not tell that he was disfigured except that you can't understand anything he says because he has no lips anymore. I watched it with subtitles so it didn't bother me but do be mindful of this if you watch it without subtitles. The DVD also comes with a Brad Pitt commentary track but I don't know why anyone would want it because his speech makes everything worse. Or better kinda depends on how you look at it I guess.
All in all Oppenheimer is a pretty nice feel good summer movie but also a tour de force and it has a few cool twists, as a hint: one of the women might not be as womanly as "she" seems turns out it wasn't meant as a joke though, well that's 2024 for you so every scene is politicised, sexualised, fetishised and also blasphemised. This is a blasphemous movie so if you're a christian maybe instead of popcorn bring a cross and some garlic. It is rated PG which I think means pretty good but I give this movie a VG rating which stands for very good. Watch this space for more of Jeff's summer movie reviews! Stay safe and let's get that money.
