Cheating

A while ago, I recommended Fallout 2 to a neighbor. He picked it up and started playing. I went to check out his stats, and found a level 117, maxed out, hacked character.

A day or two later, he claimed that he, "Beat the game." If he comes by and I happen to be playing, he boasts that his character would have killed whatever I'm fighting by now. I retort that he is a pussy cheater, unfit to be ground into shark bait.

Why are these people allowed to see the end scene? I used to think this guy was a good gamer, but now see that he uses cheats for every game he plays! Oh, that someone would develop code that detects a cheater, and gives them a "You're not worthy," ending!

By the way, all you cheaters out there are total bottom feeders! What are you afraid of, a challenge? If you can't win without cheating, you suck.

Indeed... I've tried the FALCHE, though. But mainly to see what kind of stats are required for certain difficult quests, how much AC is needed to make enemies flee etc etc.

But beating the game like that and stating how easy it was sure as hell sucks. I know a few ppl like that myself and they're pretty lame persons.

I knew one person like that. Simple solution is I no longer see him.

We played a small tournament of Warfraft2 (back in the days), and we eventually discoevered he always loaded a trainer within the game...

And even with that he only beat us every so often!

I fully agree with you, Beren.

If you use a trainer or cheat in any way, the character name should change to 'Cheater' or something similar. That would bring end to all that bragging. If you use the cheat menu in Civ2 your rank automatically goes 'Cheater' or 'Cheat' or something like that.

Heh, yeah, that's a cool thing about Civ. Since it provide it's own editor, no one really bothers to make a trainer for it. And when you edit your game, you get labeled as cheater... It's a perfect combination imho

Yeah I know some people like that too and they do it for every game they own.

Civ 2, that was a great game. The in game editor worked really well in that it changed your name.

I just use falche to make changes half-way through the game to see what happens (like invert my stats, become female/male etc)

Why is everyone bent on flaming cheaters? If i spend my money on something, that then rightfully belongs to me, i'll do whatever the hell i want with it. Sure cheating on your first playthrough might seem lame, but if that's what makes computer games fun for someone, why shouldn't they be allowed to do that? It doesn't hurt anyone but the person him/herself.

Admitted, cheating in a multiplayer game against the rules is lame, but can be solved by not playing with the bastard.

I cheated in Baldur's Gate 2 on my first and only playthrough. If i hadn't done that, i would never have gotten through more than 10% of the game, where as by cheating i managed to sit through 2/3 of it. I spent about 25$ on the damn thing, shouldn't i be allowed to see it through because i cheated?

If you need to cheat to win a game, you don't deserve to fully enjoy that game. Sure, experimenting with super-powered up stats can be fun, but if you need to cheat to win, you have no skill.

And no, just because you paid for the game it doesnt give you the right to fuck with it, capitalist dog. By cheating to win, you are destroying the integrity of the game. When you get frustrated, GET BETTER! Keep trying, and eventually you'll build the skill to beat the game.

I suppose some people aren't used to having possessions of their own. If you want to cheat in your game, it's entirely your prerogative.

But why would you want to cheat in the first place?! You get so much more satisfaction out of beating the game for real. Compulsive cheaters should be burned at the stake. :onfire:

Maybe you want to experience the game, but don't really like that type of game. Whatever the reason, single-player cheating doesn't affect you, so there's no reason to get excited about it.

There's two types of cheaters. The ones who use them if they encounter even a small problem in their path or use it from the beginning. Without questioning, it ruins your gaming experience quite a bit. Fine, they deserve that. The other type cheats after they've finished the game once or several times without using cheats. They use it to maximize their gaming experience by doing things you can't do in one playthough. I partially approve that, but I haven't done that. I get bored to games if I play them more than once. To finish a game once is enough for me. Only exceptions are Civ2 and Fallout 1 & 2, I play them because of the enjoyment I get although I'm not playing them nearly as frequently as I've used to.

I dont like to cheat in games and I agree that beating them is more rewarding.
I played fallout 1 and 2 a lot of times and I didn't cheat but in the 3rd time I played fallout 2 I cheated a bit to finish the game faster and try things in a lot of differnet ways.
If someone wants to cheat in their first game I think they are doing a mistake but who cares? if they want to cheat let them cheat if they enjoy it more that way. Because when you buy a game you want to enjoy and there are people that have more fun cheating.

And another thing: I wanted to see what War Craft 3 looks like but I hate strategy games so I cheated, saw the game and erased it.
I dont see anything wrong with that.

And its logical that in a game like Civ you would be labeled a cheater because Civ is a SCORE game. A game that it's purpose is not to finish it but finish it better. Fallout is not a score game so a cheater shouldn't be labeled as one in the game. (But maybe father Tolly wont give you the hintbook because you dont deserve it).

Cheating is lame no matter what the context. If you need your ego stroked that bad that you have to break the rules to do it, that's just plain pathetic. There's nothing more pathetic than people who don't consider the challenge a fun part of the game and have to remove it to insure they're going to win.

I liked playing Baldur's Gate 1, got a little bit boring towards the end, but still a decent game imo. So naturally i wanted to see the story continue in BG2, but it just hit me like a ton of bricks. Maybe my taste in games had changed in the more than two years between the games, but i couldn't get myself to go through with it, it bored me senseless.

So i altered my walking speed with an editor, doubling it a number of times and gave all my characters boots of speed, so i could literally run through the game. Sadly, it only served to confirm the fact that i didn't like the game at all, as i didn't even have the nerve to finish it. Try em fore you buy em, i should have remembered that.

There's nothing more pathetic than people who don't consider the challenge a fun part of the game and have to remove it to insure they're going to win.

Old friend of mine has had Fallout 2 for years, and despite cheatiing he didn't complete the game, in fact he didn't make it past Vault City. He also claimed to love Fallout, and considering he never played the real Fallout and never got through the sequel, if it's not more, it's at least as pathetic.

The first time I play through any game (except FO:T and Doom 2) I don't use cheats, then the next time I play it on a harder difficulty, then after that I use cheats to see what it's like with them.

Sometimes though it's really annoying if you haven't saved for ages, then you fall off a ledge and die or something, then you have to spend another 30 minutes getting there. Usually I can't be bothered, and it just pisses me off in some games where there's a bug or something, or you need to go out and can't save it.

Soemtimes I cheat, other times I don't. Sometimes to get past a frustating bit (laser trip-mines, jumping puzzles) other times just to fuck around. I like palying through fallout with just the leather jacket, every time I see a new piece of armour I use falche to boost my AC so I can still wear the jacket, but have the stats of combat armour or something.

Usually thogh crappy games have crappy stories (and most probably crappy FMV).

Although diablo2 has amazing FMV...

As Rat Keeng put it, if it's boring, it's boring, and cheating will only make it worst (ie: no more challenge... what chances are there to be anythign fun to do?).

If you care so much about the story, go read a book, or go watch a movie, and return the bought game whihc you shouldn't even have bought.

if its fun without the challenge, its ok to try and cheat at least 1 time, that way you will know how important the challenge to the game is.

i played diablo2 for a long time... in my early days, i cheated (until i went online) and i didnt understand what the point of the game was. then, when i went online (no cheating possible) i understood that it was all about leveling up and getting items... 1 year later, that became the most boring thing that i could possible immagion, and i stopped playing it.
