A Whole Bunch of Unanswered Questions

Post by Stealth Rabbit »

Please, someone read this. I have found a whole bunch of stuff in the MASTER.DAT file that are not included in the full version of the game. And, seeing as I am too damn lazy to post a few topics, here it goes.
1. Somewhere in the dialogue, someone named Mr. Cheater (master.dat\text\english\dialog\cccheat.msg). What the hell is that?
2. In one of the map files specifying which towns are which, something called "Area 47," or Shadow Worlds is mentioned. There is also a comment saying areas that have nowhere else to go. The Stables is also in that category. Any ideas?
3. Was there originally an interior to the Hubologist shuttle, because there is a map, and when you access it in Recording Mode, it says something like "no tex" where all the textures for the walls and floor should be.
4. While on the topic of Hubologists, was there another name, Elronogists or something with Elron in the beginning?
5. The Exploding Brahmin Encounter, I saw another map, both containing the exact same stuff. One is the proper special encounter (rndexcow), and the other is something else (cowbomb). Will someone tell me what is going on. Was this a screw up by BIS, or something else?

If ANYONE can answer one or all of these questions, I would be grateful.

1. Most probably a debug character they added to the game to test stuff out... He allows you to fiddle with a bunch of of global variables to trigger events which should happen otherwise, in a manner which was too long for them to trigger in the usual manner to test...

2. Some areas were in design doc but ended up left out... As for the "nowhere else to go" comment it's just that they classified the list, putting normal maps first, then random encounters etc etc... And then you have "those which don't belong anywhere else"...

3. Yes, as you can see it was never implimented "tex" means texture as you probably thought... They never made the graphics for the shuttle... The whole hubbologist deal was a kinda rough rush job they probably did near the end of development as there's a lot of holes and nagging bugs in the whole deal (like not being able to fuel the tanker if you do the wrong stuff with them...)

4. That's correct, their original name was Ernologists and they got renamed during development

5. Dunno... cowbomb is never used, only rndexcow is found in the game.

Just if anyone looking at this post is curious, here's the Mr. Cheater dialogue:
{100}{}{You see Mr. Cheater.}
{101}{}{He still looks like a cheater.}
{200}{}{Hello I am Mr. Cheater. How may I help you?}
{201}{}{Will you kidnap my tribe?}
{202}{}{Will you put me on the Shi quest?}
{203}{}{Will you put me on the Elron quest?}
{204}{}{Will you put me on the Brotherhood quest?}
{205}{}{Make it so I've already been to the military base.}
{206}{}{I've kidnapped your tribe.}
{207}{}{I've put you on the Shi quest.}
{208}{}{I've put you on the Elron quest.}
{209}{}{I've put you on the Brotherhood quest.}
{210}{}{Now you have been to the military base.}
{211}{}{Thank you, Mr. Cheater.}

There are programs availible here at DAC that let you view and (I guess) modify Fallout DAT files.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

I had no clue a Mr.Cheater exists. But on the other hand, I don't tinker with Master.dat. :roll:

Elronologists = L. Ron. Hubbard, creator of the Scientology religion (also known as $cientology, even though I think mormons have more to do with money than they do...). The religion is home to various famous actors, from Tom Cruise to John Travolta (who should be put out of his missery for bringing the worst movie of the last 3 decades to screen... Battlefield Earth).

They were making fun of scientologists with the ol' hubby religion. It is just yet another of the random pop-culture remarks that kind of peeve me with Fallout 2.

Ah, that explains it. I knew it had something to do with scientology, but didn't know it's creator. Thankie yo.

Oh and, Battlefield Earth does suck. :evil:
