Yes it's very good for a drop of realism in maps. You can make it an entity yes. Have a look on Max-V's and Endocore maps. There must be some instances there. Certainly when JJ86 will release his "Quartz" map I'm expecting to see some, probably OTB's demo even.
Point taken. :)

Well, ofcourse if you go for the "all dark and pessimistc feel" map it would be, ...erm pointless( :P ) to go for such tiles.

That does make sense... does the sprite come with it's own bounding box, though? (Marvel, as I demonstrate my ignorance. :D)
Yes, it comes with one. It's O.K. to be unfamiliar with some of the editors we didn't discuss them much recently. Too many areas were covered before so less questions come up as time passes. If you have some time, you could spend some time browsing through the older posts. I personally have at least 300 text files of all the discussions we had on various issues.

Also it might be helpfull to read JJ86's enhanced readme. It will probably make your work much easier. If you go to the very first page chronologically, you should even find subjects on Map designing philosophy(I quite liked that subject, unfortunatelly it faded away fast). Much stuff was lost for DAC when it moved. Perhaps we should make an old DAC archives database somewhere.

The old DAC forums are still there if you ever want to go back and do some searching. Most of the good material I have sifted through to make tutorials with. But it doesn't hurt to look through it some more.

Also after you're done with the previous, a really usefull tile for various purposes, would be that of the Vertibird...

Also, please go with "Mr. Fusion" for the microwave tile. If Max-V prefers a modern version I could make it in almost no-time, using one of the Net free models.

A damned good idea, WB! Er...even though it would mean I'd have to revise some maps since the closest thing to be had to the mesh fence is the corrugated iron fence. It's not the same since it blocks both movement and LoS and therefore falls into a different niche than the corrugated iron.

I'd like to see that kind of a fence, too.

And an "off" version of the RaiderSkullLamp (not the RaiderSkullWallLamp - there's already "off" versions of those).

Senor D,

I'd just like to say thanks for your email and for the piano tile, which is up to your usual miracle-working standards!

I think I'll just leave it as you've sent it: as a tile, for now. I'm afraid all this talk of Rhino and Lightwave et al is above me. Until I've mastered the art, at least, I'll think I'll stick to common or garden map-making. :)

I'd be interested in the stove-tile you've turned your hand to for Flamescreen, if you would be so kind to bundle it to me, too, once it's finished.

Hats off to you, mate! :)

Nothing wrong with that! Aside from my...oh geeze, I guess I'm up over 100 sprites now - all of which are simply taken from screenshots or photos - it's exactly what I do!

So Piano and Stove are done, next is the sign for MaxV. What I forgot to mention about the tiles: the pianos attributes are probably wrong, I don´t know what they should be, but you´ll be able to change them easily using Red!´s supertool. As for the stove, I made two versions, one with the bounding box being as high as the whole image and one being just 5 units high, so you could crouch behind the lower part. I don´t know which version is more useful, as I don´t have any experience in map-making, but you could manipulate that quite easy as well.

Thanks again everyone for the great feedback and thanks to Red! for his viewer, I love this tool!!

Yay! :D Here's what I'd like: 12 units high by 1 unit thick and 18 units long. "Welcome to Twisted Rock" in purple letters and, under that, "Population: Dwindling" in smaller, green letters. Make it look like the purple letters go about 2/3 the way from the top of the sign to the bottom, with the green letters filling the rest of the space. One more thing: Make the sign face South.

Hey, that sounds pretty neat! Couldja send it my way when you send me "my" sign? Or even before, if you want.

Senor D,

I've got my first bit of negative criticism, I'm afraid. Whilst the stove looked great and very Fallouty, it was a little too big, to my mind. I can't remember Flamescreen's specifications at the moment, but I think I would have restricted the width of the stove to 6 units (the same as the average wall-tile, IIRC) and the depth and height would probably shrink to a more suitable size along with the width.

But, ultimately it's down to Flamescreen to have the final say, I suppose, since it was his commission. Either way, please continue to work your magic, or I think we'd all be lost!

Steve :)

Senor D,

I'd like to put this request, which I posted in another thread, on your list, please. Obviously, the guys who have posted before me get precedence, but I'd like to get this one in the pipe-line, at least. ;)

Is there any chance you could knock up a shop-sign (an above-the-door, secured-to-the-wall affair) with the 'General Store' text from this image:

Image

...written upon it, to fit a bounding-box up to 12 units tall; width as it comes (plenty of horizontal wall-space to attach it to); and a depth of one.

Ideally, could the text be black and on a weathered, wooden board, please?

Many thanks,

Steve :)

Hello guys.
I couldn't see the stove as my pc is on the store for upgrades. I'll comment on it tomorrow. I didn't have any specs for it so we will see. If it's not too wide, I don't think it will be needed to change, I will see both versions and decide. Possibly both will be usable.

Btw, how is your tile set going SD? I hope you're not cutting too much time from your own project for our favor.

NOOOO!!!! YOU`RE NOT ALLOWED TO SAY THAT!!! MODERATORS! BAN HIM!!!

You´re right, StevieD, 6 units wide would have been more reasonable. The problem is, I didn´t pay attention to the exact proportions when modelling it, so I´d need to go back to that stage to make it fit into the FOT "grid". Stupid me. I´ve been already a bit tired and maybe even a bit drunk, when I modelled it.

So all I can do now is changing the size of the rendered images. So if it´s 6 units wide (the way I had it before), it doesn´t seem to be high enough to me. Anyway, if I find the time I might make a smaller version, but I don´t know yet. I´ll wait, if Flame can deal with it.

Alright, MaxV, starting today.

Another Question: I just made some wirefence tiles with barbwire at the top, but I don´t know what values they should have so that it blocks movement, but not Line of Sight. Maybe I should finally plough through all the other posts on this forum, to learn what these values in Red´s Viewer mean. But I´m not only stupid, I´m lazy as well. Anyone knows if (and where) this has been discussed? The quicker you´ll help me, the quicker you´ll get your wirefence, hehe... ;)

The General Store Sign shouldn´t be too much work, StevieD, but I don´t know, when I´ll start it, cause I want to continue my own tileset and I got a lot of other stuff to do as well at the moment. The cooling-box will have to wait as well. Still I´d like everyone to post whatever he needs, though I cannot promise when I´ll start on it.

Well, speaking as a n00b who's never actually seen Red's Viewer in action, let alone used it, wouldn't it be possible to make the wire-fence sections in the standard size (12 high, 6 wide and 1 or 2 deep) and stick on the windowed tag, so's characters can see and shoot through them?

Splendid! :) I'll be happy to wait for the sign, Senor D, because I'm quite keen to open my own branch of the Mr. Fusion empire in my map. ;)
