Ever heard of the film "28 Days Later"?

Heard about the film 28 Days Later? No? Neither had I until I stumbled upon news of it at the Coming Attractions by Corona website. It sounds just like the kind of film a lot of you might appreciate.
First of all, it's not a sequel to that Sandra Bullock romantic comedy - it's something even better! Directed by Danny Boyle (Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, A Life Less Ordinary), it combines two of my favourite story elements... post-apocalyptic worlds and zombies! Ooh baby. Here's a quick plot synopsis from an early test reviewer (who said the film was really good, by the way):
On paper the plot is your basic post apocalyptic survivor story, but what makes this film special is an almost total lack of global viewpoint. There are no walls full of video screens in darkened bunkers showing the diseases spread, or men in white coats tapping syringes and crying behind glass masks. You have no idea how far the nightmare has spread, and this just adds to the tension. Everything is from the viewpoint of a confused bycicle courier who wakes up one morning to find himself in a deserted London hospital. The opening sequences of him wandering half naked and hung over through a completely desolate central London were stunning, and added to by a once agan impeccable soundtrack. Once he's come to terms with his loneliness he's wrenched out of it by what is effectively a full scale zombie attack. The people around him are buried in an uncontrollable mania of rage, chasing him with burning eyes and gritted teeth, trying to rip his flesh and spread the disease. He is saved by another pair of survivors, and the journey begins. How to find life and future in environment destroyed by the extremes of human violence.
Crikey. Where do I sign up? You can read more at the Coming Attractions page.
Then there's also the official site for the film, which offers a brief teaser video for a preview. It's not much, but it's enough to keep me going... for now. Hurray for post-apocalyptic films! Let's just hope it ends up being decent like the early feedback says.

Theres a similar UK zombie film being made from the "normal man" perspective but this is a comedy from Simon "Spaced" "Big Train" Pegg, so it should be fucking funny. Its called Shaun of the Dead and hes trying to visit his mum on his bday while everyone is turning into zombies.
As for that synopsis of 28 days, what films show the zombies taking over?
All we get are thing exactly like this film is, isolated normal people, i want to see the millitary reaction on Zday, i want to see the zombie crisis sweep the country over moniters in a darkened bunker. The most intresting bits in any of the Romero films were the news broadcasts. Its like Reign of Fire, i wanted to see the dragons take over (or the actual invasion in Signs). Why dont they be ORIGINAL for once and show us the responce of the people at the top e.g. Sum Of All Fears, with zombies.

Movie? never seen it. I'm talking about the BOOK.
I think some people need a refresher course on what this book actually entails.

SO THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE THERE.biological experiments in the form of these dangerous new seedlings were on board a jet that was shot down in the atmosphere, scattering the seeds around the world ... in the movie, the triffids are destroyed by sea water, but in the book the triffids conquer England, forcing the few remaining survivors to nearby islands

If you like The Day of the Triffids, don't miss The Kraken Wakes, The Chrysalids, or indeed, any of Wyndham's highly readable novels. Don't bother with the absurd movie version of Triffids, where they use seawater to melt the mobile plants...shades of Dorothy emptying a bucket over the witch in The Wizard of Oz. -- Blaise
