If it had good plot elements and was thought out and not rushed I would play it if it had similar graphics to wasteland or roguelikes.
Who cares what it looks like: it needs to be a good game first, and look nice second.
"Ancient Greece was ahead of its time, and before our time. They had no TV, but they had lots of philosophers.
I, personally, would not want to sit all evening watching a philosopher."
Of course, you're absolutely right. But doesn't spending less time on graphics and more time on gameplay mean avoiding stuff like taking more time on the graphics to make it uglier?
graphics come in second place , agree , no one as played wasteland for it graphics but it still a good game .
My self I think a good mix of Gorilaz , Wasteland Climax and DAC artwork could create a great fallout 3 graphics , but the good 2d renderized graphics whit isometric view still working for me ......
if you ask me i think it should keep the graphics of fallout 2. they are perfectly fine and need no tampering. and yes gameplay should always come first. Plus cell shading is great but 3d is not for rpgs and i will not argue on that point ! :x
This can be a curse though. Designers often use this as a way of making a title with little plot/gameplay/cleverness/charm. The game is much easier and cheaper to make, and sales come from mindless 1337 game kiddies.
It's an easy way out.

I just want Fo3 to be a good game in every aspect. First look is often vital. However what's the most important thing in every game is general playability. It consists of these parts you have enumerated. Right now we should pay more attention to good storyline, then the graph, becouse the graph must fit it.
As for the engine, it does't look like we're going to see the next Fallout tommorow. I bet that not earlier than 4/5 years. Then the 3d engines will become perfect and you'll be laughing looking back at your todays posts.
