Ghouls and the "Heavy" Weapon Type

Post by OnTheBounce »

I'm not sure if this is one of the FoT "urban myths" or if it's simply mistake on my part, but there does seem to be some confusion as to whether or not Ghouls can use weapons that have use the "heavy" weapon graphic.

Well, after a quick experiment I'm proud to announce that Ghouls can indeed use weapons set to the "heavy" type! Here's the "occular proof":

Image

The Laser Rifle shown is a modified version that I changed the display type on. You can clearly see that the Ghoul shown is able to both hold the weapon, and that it is usable (i.e. doesn't show up in red). This is very handy for those of you that - like me - are trying for more of a FO RPG look and feel to your FoT mods, since in the RPGs the E-Rifles were all very bulky affairs, in keeping with the '50s pulp sci-fi retro-future thinga-ma-jig-bob-jobber.

So don't be afraid of using this weapon type for fear of crippling ghouls!

Cheers,

OTB

G's can also use miniguns, if anyone was wondering. For "occluar proof," play Rebellion and Tag E-weapons for Fuego. Grab a laser minigun. Melt some Reavers :D

That's a relief. I was afraid that Ghouls were getting short-changed on weapons selection. I was getting ready to add some weapons to my catalogue to compensate for this. I think I'll still add the "Laser Carbine" that I was planning on, to include a 3-shot burst mode, but with less damage/shot and shorter range than the Laser Rifle.

I give all of my Ghouls biblical names. Do you give all of yours Spanish names?

Load any character sprite in my viewer, and look at the sequences avaiable.

You'll find a bunch of entries pertaining to the respective weapon frames, and get your "proofs" much faster :)

Now however...

This is what a ghoul looks like? Bahaha.. Just looks like a human..

Well, if you think of it, so does the FO/FO2 ghouls, if you exclude their photos(or like fuzzy shaped humans if you prefer). If you don't like the graphic btw(I don't either, which is why I bypassed it for my campaign) you shouldn't check the Facials. Very unFallouty. They look like something I've been building in poser. Distorted faces and such.

Well, I can agree with the likes of Lenny... they just looked like slimey humans, but the normal ghouls looked very much ghoulish... I mean it waqs obvious this wasn't a normal human.

When I say the ghoul posted back there I first though it was a raider or something...

Mind you the quality of the pic is not very good, must be a bmp or something. If you see it in game, it does look less human, but I still don't like it. They should have aliens or something and give them that graphic. If you check the consept art, they were closer to FO there, in some of it.

if you pay a very close look, it looks almost like a klingon you know. That's were I got the idea for my first campaign, which wasn't very Fallouty.

However the coloring abilities of FoT are great, you can actually make glowing ones, ...glow, for instance.

Well, I like the FO:T engine even with it's high requirements... RAM isn't that expensive and it's what it requires the most really... I mean it's not lie Everquest or Asheron's Call which actually BUNDLE RAM WITH THEIR GAME...

I just wish so much of it was hardcoded :(

Well... how else should the Ghouls in FoT look? I mean Ghouls are actually humans arent they? It would be abit surprising if they didnt look it just abit...... And the avatar pictures are just like Harry in FO2. Whats unfallouty about that...?

As Ghouls aren't the most nimble of races to start with, would a Big Guns Ghoul suffer a severe movement penalty when packing an M60 or RPG??
