Could it be we're being a TAD too harsh on MCA? I mean, yes from a design standpoint he doesn't exactly == t3h win. New Reno was a fucking nightmare. BUT MCA is the one responsible for the Fallout Bileball. Which isn't always good but it does show he's at least interested in keeping Fallout alive.
Ok now I have to bash him just a little because I feel so so so dirty for sticking up for him. MCA DO NOT USE THE FOB AS A FUCKING WALK THRU.
KTHXBYE

The answer to your first question is shaddup.

That's funny, because that's how Kreegle typically bills him. Then again, Kreegle also seems to know fuck all about a lot of this stuff.I mean, yes from a design standpoint he doesn't exactly == t3h win.
I don't know, I see the FOB as kin with New Reno, considering it's marred with various mistakes about the setting, such as decades of food riots and other things.New Reno was a fucking nightmare. BUT MCA is the one responsible for the Fallout Bileball. Which isn't always good but it does show he's at least interested in keeping Fallout alive.
Look at it this way, when there's food riots in the major cities for decades, who's going to buy war bonds? Hmmm? It kind of makes the Fallout intro movie a little purposeless, doesn't it?
That's MCA's BIG PROBLEM, he just doesn't get the setting. He seems to think that Fallout = MODERN DYSTOPIC SCI-FI like Judge Dredd, Bladerunner, The Running Man, etc. It's even more funny that his idea of Fallout canon clashes with the creators of the setting.

I agree with you.Saint_Proverbius wrote: That's MCA's BIG PROBLEM, he just doesn't get the setting. But the FOB have some up sides. I like the idea of putting design documantien and concept art in it.
If he would limit the FOB to that, I think it would have been much better.

Why? Because he fucked up the setting in the FOB, and when he speaks you can see he is clueless about the setting?Constipated BladeRunner wrote:Yes, for the most part I agree with that.
Though I do think that if he did work on FO3, he could get the setting right.
Not if what he said is true, and people were rioting for food. I don't see patriotic potential in people that don't have anything to eat. I don't see people protesting against the goverment and giving their tires for the war effort at the same time.Anyway, people would buy war bonds (and have pleanty of reasons to) if there was a nuclear attack!

No, really?Rosh wrote: The FOB and Ass-Wind Dale II are both after PS:T.
Try to keep up here.
See where I come from, PS: T came out BEFORE.
SEE, it all has to do with quantum mechanics- I am from a diffrient dimenision! A bizzare place where penguins are masters of the human race! And I am worshiped by both Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman clones!
I was talking about SinCity, dumbass.
The FOB isn't a total fuckup. Of course, there are some turkeys in the setting and mistakes in the timeline etc. that MCA has made. That's regrettable, but it's not a reason to hunt down and burn him with the FOB stuffed up his ass. Generally, his ideas about fallout universe are quite near the principles most of use agree on and things that make Fallout fallout. Blade Runner, Judge Dredd? I hardly think so, but I agree on that he should be more careful in defining the fallout universe. Also, I think it's good he brings original game design documents to the public. Remember, Chris Avellone is not Tim Cain, the Supreme Fallout Commander, nor we can expect him to be. I think everyone 'understands' Fallout a bit differently, not necessarily a bad thing.
I personally don't doubt Chris Avellones game designer skills. PS:T is a classic game and a fine example of CRPGing at its best, taking into notice in which cirumstances the game was made. If he'd be the lead designer on Fallout 3, naturally there'd be slight differences with the original title, that's no matter who the lead designer would be. It seems like everyone is waiting that Tim Cain would design the next Fallout. Well, it wont happen, that's reality folks. Fallout Bible on the other hand, I hope Chris Avellone would stop dictating the fallout universe by himself, to avoid mixed feelings and confusion with the fallout fans. I'd like to see some open debate and sharing ideas with the people who originally created fallout, and with the fallout community. So we can make a better bible, a real one.

Problem with PS:T is it's linearity... Basically it's not a RPG at all (other then for stats), it's just a pretty much fixed story you play out by choosing how you'll attack... The thing about it is the story is great, but it still doesn't make it a "good RPG".
Of course I'm talking out of my ass here as I've never played the game, but that's what I heard.

The side quests were area-restricted, you moved through areas depending on your main quest and in each area there were a few side quests. You followed the game dectiated story line, you couldn't just do what you want like in Fallout.
Another thing I didn't like in PS:T was the combat system. It wasn't good at all. When I had 4 NPC's combat became really annoying. The game was pretty balanced, except in the end. If you played a fighter (doesn't even have to be a pure fighter) you could easly finish the fortress of regrets.
All in all, I find this game pretty decent.
