I want the game to be more like the film as such any combt would be short realistic and bloody, the reason i want little combat is because the zone should be sparse and far more emphasis on exploring (and working ways around traps etc.)

The shear speed of the gamplay (including movement) shown makes it look rather run and gun as oposed to the thinking mans FPS.

I agree with Hatamoto on this. I'd much rather have it be less realistic and more fun than the other way around.

Personally, Carrot, I'd rather they do both. You can either sneak around in the weed, or run and gun.

Hmm i was expecting something very new, and original, there have been enough games where you can do "both" but its far easier to run and gun. I wanted it to be like the film which is not in anyway "fun" but mentally taxing and incredably deep. As soon as you make the combat the highlight you end up having to detract from the envrimntal interaction.

To draw a parralel to another game...... take deus ex, what would the game have been like with very limited combat but far more of a "conspiracy/detective" spin.

I demand a depressing gaming experience! not in the way a bad game is depressing (e.g. diablo or dungeon siege) but something that makes me feel unsettled and sad. The only fun in the game is what you make of your own achievments.

Actually i think im sounding like a loony, ive played too many games and the last one that did this well was some obscure french adventure game called "i have no mouth yet i must scream".

Yes but consider this: you (the stalker) have packed yourself with biggest gun you could find, and has just dealt with some pesky wasteland critters. as the sound of your gun dies out, someone cries out to you from the poisonous mist, and you try to make out where the voice is coming from. suddenly your high tech hud picks up something lying on the ground, a man displaying rather low life signs, lying face down in the wet grass. From his equipment and clothes he looks like a soldier from the first strike team to enter the zone. He seems to be in rather bad shape, and for some reason he is riddled with bullet wounds. Without making an effort to make eye contact he tries to get a few words out to you;

"you know...how your friends...your brothers are expected to always...be there for you? They did what was right... what they thought was right...and i was ready to take it... i have been... absorbed by this place my friend... is it a friendly gesture to bring it closer to us... does it have to hurt so?"

The mans tone suddenly changes and you can hear the pain building up inside of him. He starts to scream at the top of his voice, but there is still no body movement whatsoever, as if he was moulded to the ground.

"IT KEEPS ME LIKE THIS! WHY?!"

suddenly a flower shoots out of the mans forehead. *bothered moan* *silence*
You make a closer examination of the body to discover more vegetation, seemingly growing right out of the mans military uniform.

"IT WONT LET ME REST! AND IT WANTS ME TO FEEL ALL OF IT....BE MY FRIEND AND BROTHER, I BEG OF YOU!"

Walk away or try to put the poor man out of whatever misery he is in... choice is yours. Killing the man could perhaps upset the freak nature around you? :) There should also be a stalkers log for these psychological encounters that could help the atmosphere of the game. What im trying to say is it could still be a rather fast shooter and a really psychologically disturbing experience at the same time.

yeah thats what youd do if the game had really bad atmosphere, but that as i said, can be created. and i didnt mention a plant-monster did i? thats what you made out of my description, so perhaps you are in need of some old skool monster whacking? If you think a bit deeper about it, it could be nature revolting against man, wanting him to feel the pain we have caused it during all these years... geez, what u want is a direct adaptation of the old movie from 79. Also, i didnt see the game trailer as a specially fast one... maybe theres a running and walking option, with stamina dictating how long you can keep up running pase, a bit like sprinting in day of defeat.
