Static DOOMED!
[ -> Update]
Odin of NMA passed an email along to me about Static. Basically, it's toast. However, here's the letter:
We've been running from the thought that Static was put on hold until further notice (none of us want that). But after being pushed aside for lack of funding, and time- and the need for most of us to continue to make a living, it looks like Static is just that- on hold. Our original intent for this demo was to use it as a portfolio piece or avenue to garner more contract gigs. We all agreed to work on this for free, knowing that if it was done well enough we could get jobs, and perhaps a little boost in our freelance life. Although we had always wished in the back of our minds that it could go further, and see Static as we saw it in our head (on store shelves everywhere) it doesnt look very probable at this time. The entire team and I still feel that there are many unique aspects in the game that the genre, overall, desperately needs. Those features may not see the light of day in Static- but as the rest of us move forward, they will be considered for every opportunity that arises. You can be sure to see more games in the future that exist in the same humorous post-apocalyptic setting we have all come to love and adore in games such as Fallout. Its just a matter of patience.Or- get up and give your hand at it! Most of the team who put Static together had NO game experience. You just need a clear plan and vision, and work with the same goal in mind. Remember- the big dollar corporations can still be rivaled with the smaller "garage" games.
Well, that's a bummer. Best of luck to Will Fox and the rest of the crew on that project.

Unfortunately it seems that there are more political/economic problems for a lot of these games than technical ones.Spazmo wrote:...the numerous difficulties that will often arise in the process of making a game.
Personally, I'm saddened that this game won't see the light of day. It had real potential from what I saw.

It's a shame to see independent games go belly up. Just because they're infinitely more inspired than 90% of commercial games

Beauty contests and game competitions
There is a genre of narrative that
seeks to compare and contrast the ideals of an age through conflict.
An "artistic" competition is a form of conflict, and the history of art is driven (portrayed), and littered, by these 'struggles" of persons and personality types just like 'world history' in general is the hissy fits of queens, jacks, and asses, I mean aces..
I submit the concept that STATIC
was the virtuous victim in that now forgotten computer game 'beauty contest'. MIZ'z TRENDY D' CLUELESS won because it was most likely a one horse race, and the others allowed to participate to pump up the odds and fill out the "line up".
And that's my opinion and may not reflect the reality, but rather my
cynical projection of selection committees and the political correctness that obscures the vision of judical "star chambers".
The strength of STATIC was that we can see that it was worthy of completion and publication.

It's just a damn shame none of the publishers out there saw that potential.4too wrote:The strength of STATIC was that we can see that it was worthy of completion and publication.

No! It is a HUGE problem! This is the reason no publisher wants it! This is the cause of all the pain and suffering! If only! If only they'd changed that sound, they would've gotten a publisher!Red wrote:Um... tech demos and even demos often come with "older sounds".. I mean come on, changing a soung is just changing a damn WAV. That's an obvious thing which is NOT a problem.
That's the truth. I swear it. On my little red wagon.
