RANDOM MUSINGS FROM HELL!

Post by Killzig »

<strong>[ -> N/A]</strong>

If you'd like to read the usual canned crap about why FO3 isn't in production, click <a href="http://feedback.blackisle.com/forums/sh ... 1">here</a>. That being said, IPLY's stock is down to $0.13 so if you guys want to get together and buy some shares so we can get them to sell the Fallout license please comment!

On to other news, it seems those happening dudes, <a href="http://www.fallout.ru/teamx/">TeamX</a> have put together a spiffy patch that removes the city limit from Fallout 2. Grab it right <a href="http://www.duckandcover.net/fallout2/fi ... !*</a>//<a href="http://www.winzip.com">*.ZIP File</a>.

Another useful mod is <A href="mailto:return0@pisem.net">Abel's</a> Fallout 2 media player mod, <a href="http://www.duckandcover.net/fallout2/fi ... !*</a>//<a href="http://www.winrar.com">*.RAR File</A>.

Thanks to <a href="http://www.nma-fallout.com">Odin</a> for the above.

You are now excused. Be careful walking down the street tonight, Randy Moss might be out on the prowl.

What exactly would the city limit patch do and what could it entail?

After reading through the BI posts and JE Sawyer's babbling, it only furthers my hatred toward big name game companies and developers. They're just gonna keep making shit. Unfortunetly, the idiots who buy anything far outnumber the people with taste so these asshole companies keep making a profit.
I refuse to buy games from Interplay, Lucas Arts, FOX Interactive, and Vivendi Universal (Sierra) ever again. The past year or so all my attention has gradually turned towards independent developers, free of the main stream "Hollywood" atmosphere. They have total creative inspiration and spend as much time sculpting their masterpiece. Meanwhile BIS and everyone else has a virtual assembly line crapping out game after game before the timer runs out and the next so called "hit" is thrown on the shelves.

It's so funny to still see everyone begging for Fallout 3. If they made it I'd probably wait a year for it to reach the bargain bin before throwing away my money.

No, 6 days and 23 hours. Crazy nuts.

Isn't that horribly depressing? Twenty years from now, when X Major Games Publication does a forty year computer gaming retrospective, will BIS and Interplay be remembered as the makers of Fallout or the makers of a bunch of repetitive hack 'n' slash games using a crappy engine?
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

I cast my vote for repetitive hack 'n' slash games using a crappy engine.

There is hardcoded a limit to how many "cities"/locations there are in Fallout 2, so in order for us/TeamX to add cities, they had to remove that. So this little mod does just that, and it would make it possible to add new cities to Fallout 2, new locations etc... but it's not as easy as it sounds tho..

How much would I need to buy the whole company? I never mentioned it before (don't want begging mail) but I came into a bit of money a while back (high seven digits).

I considered setting up a games company, but don't know how to go about it. My questions are:

1) How much would I need to get a controlling interest in Interplay?
2) Is there a better way I could spend my money to achieve the same end? (own a CRPG dev company)
3) If I bought Interplay, would I be allowed to make money from it, or would an attempt to do so result in me being labelled as "the enemy?"
4) If I used Interplay to make a new Fallout game, would it be possible to do so in a way that didn't alienate half of you? Is there a "right way of doing it" I could follow?
5) How many of you would want to come work for me?

They would be glad to be remembered at all. 20 years is a long time in gaming. People will probably remember Tomb Raider and all that shit, as nowadays knowledge of 1980's 'best' games and developers is very limited. Interplay and BIS is a small fly poo among the biggest bullshits like EA/Konami/Square etc.

ahahahah, yeah, because the minority's opinion is always the more tasteful

also, to the guy with the millions above me, stupid people just shouldn't be trusted with money like that. Jesus christ, "I COULD HIRE YOU GUYS FOR MY GAME COMPANY SO WE COULD HAVE FUN TOGETHER". Try to realize there's absolutely no way to satisfy the hardcore fallout 'fans'. Also, asking for tips on an investment that involves millions of dollars of money on an internet forum filled with gaming nerds is possibly the most retarded thing you could ever do.

Which is usually true because the majority of consumers are the 12-15 year old bracket who have been playing games for less than a year of their lives. They don't know what the hell is going on. For all they know Warcraft 3 is the first in the series and Half Life started the FPS genre.

Not true, although if you're the type of person to indulge yourself with feelings of superiority, convincing yourself you're in a member of a small elite would be a typical manifestation.

Minorities have more specific tastes, naturally. Obviously, when serving a larger number of people, there will be a broader base of tastes. Unfortunately, one common approach taken to serving those is to find common denominators and play to those, often resulting in a shallow and generic product.
Try to realize there's absolutely no way to satisfy the hardcore fallout 'fans'.
Yes, interesting, isn't it? So, which of Interplay's "bad" decisions are truly bad and which are just presented as such by a group of impossible to satisfy people?
Also, asking for tips on an investment that involves millions of dollars of money on an internet forum filled with gaming nerds is possibly the most retarded thing you could ever do.
Yes, and taking such a request seriously is possibly a little silly. Maybe I should have decorated it with smileys so you knew which bits were not serious?

I would hesitate to write off the users of this forum as gaming nerds and I would also not be quite so dimissive of their advice. There are several users who seem very knowledgeable about various issues, particularly the admins and some of the regular users.

I didn't want this whole thing to get into a heated debate. It was just a little joke and I didn't expect anyone to post quite such an offensive reply. Still, there you go - not all users of this forum are worth speaking to.

Sorry about that, I've just never met anyone who rolls their eyes when being sarcastic. I've only met the ones who use it to indicate exasperation or resignation

*Raises hand*

I'm a gaming nerd, although I prefer the term geek.
