Just how many of you would be interested in a Reviews Forum?
Simple. Just answer. I want the numbers since last attempt discussing it failed, and since I've almost completed Quagmire, my second review is on its way, and I'd hate to see it buried.

With caution, as we discussed last time. Instead of numbers, we could use a thumbs up/thumbs down system, or a good/bad/ugly system:
THE GOOD:
Blah blah blah
THE BAD:
Blah blah blah
THE UGLY
Blah blah blah
Overall: Thumbs up/thumbs down

yikes! i'm all for the idea, but that still sounds kinda harsh. i guess we just all have to go on agreement that it's just constructive criticism.Max-Violence wrote:Vote YES!

I don't think we need an entire forum dedicated to reviewing mapping.
Another solution would be to place a "sticky" topic devoted to each map that gets reviewed, that way it will stay at the top of the appropriate forum - probably FoT Mapping - and other people wanting to review the map and/or comment on other reviews can add to that topic.
I think that reviews should only be conducted w/permission from the author, though. Some people won't want their material dragged over the coals, and there's no need to forcefeed them criticism.

Yea, WB, that system might be a little too much. Maybe something like, "What I liked:" and, "What I didn't like:" instead.
OTB: I don't think it'd be a good idea to post a sticky thread for every single map - what happens when we have like 15 maps reviewed? It'd be a mess!
Perhaps, instead, we make a stinky thread for every mapper's maps?
But yea, I don't think Kreegle'd spring for yet another forum in this place.
Of course, if he will, then what the hell, knowutImean?

You can always "unsticky" threads. When we get more than a set number of "sticky" topics we can always "unsticky" the oldest ones. The idea of having one topic/mapper might work, though.Max-Violence wrote:I don't think it'd be a good idea to post a sticky thread for every single map - what happens when we have like 15 maps reviewed? That's what I was thinkin' m'self. Besides, it'd be a forum that would get less attention that even the least used ones we have right now.Max-Violence wrote: But yea, I don't think Kreegle'd spring for yet another forum in this place.
Speaking of forums. I was wondering why we need a FoT Mapping and a FoT Modding forum. The two topics bleed over into each other so much that the conversations in each forum wander between the two. I think they should be combined, personally.

Someone once told me, "Don't pay attention to forum titles... they lie..."
In this case, that's true. I'm not all that trustworthy
Let us all know what His Kreegleship says, ya?

I say yes!
As for the reviews, well... in a perfect world, what I'd like to do is have some kind of script like our old, old, old map section on the old DAC site. There's an option to rate the map from 1 - 10, and underneath that people can leave comments.
I can't script though, and old Goldenbeast has dropped off the face of the Earth. So... I don't know. A map review forum might be OK - each map getting it's own thread.

Well, I suppose that if by mistake we publish a review for some map his creator doesn't want reviewed, we can delete the comments. I thought that for most part people would like to get reviews for their maps, if the reviewer isn't biased against the map.
As you're generally correct though and one cannot violate another's right to be silent of ones creations, I will e-mail Endocore about my thoughts to review Quagmire.

Seeing Kreegle's reply I'd say that it seems the old boy has a mouth - fingers, to be precise - of his own.Max-Violence wrote:Let us all know what His Kreegleship says, ya?
Kreegle: Thanks for combining the forums. You're making my life much easier this way.

I'd prefer the "proper script" option. However, if it's going to turn into a situation like Paleo-DaC's map page, I say it would be better to go w/the map review forum.Kreegle wrote:Now that we've got our first maps being moved over onto DAC...what do you think about the review forum?
Or should we wait a while and try to get a proper script to sort it out?
BTW, I'd like to thank you for mentioning "in a perfect world". Now I've got Debbie Harold from Blondie singing, "Accidents never happen in a perfect world," in my head...over...and over...and over...
*hehe* This is a sure sign of sleep deprivation...

Well, if there's ever a review forum, I'll volunteer to moderate it. I'll also nominate Flamescreen.

Well, it's not like moderating a forum is all that work, especially one that would be as inactive as a FoT map review forum. However, I wouldn't mind having a FoT-related forum w/o my name in the moderator slot.Max-Violence wrote:I'm sure OTB has enough on his hands already
OTB doesn't need to have his fingers in every pie.
