time limit

Post by Howlround »

Is it possible to have a time limit for triggers. I'm thinking of making it so you have to find these NPC's in a certain amout of time or eslse they die. Is that even possible? thanks again. You guys are most helpful.

It depends on what you're the scope of your time limit. If you're wanting to have a time limit that applies only to a single map, yes, that's entirely feasable, using a Timer. However, I'm 99% certain that Timers are map-specific, so you can't have a time limit that is started on one map and then affects another.

If you want some NPCs killed after the time limit expires, simply use a "Kill Entity" trigger when a Timer has a certain reached a certain value.

If you want to see good, easy examples of timers, check out Quincy (mission06.mis) in the core campaign. If you still have questions after that, fire away.

Cheers,

I also posted a mini-tutuorial on timers in the old forums, search for my handle and Timers and you should get the exact post.

Speaking of which... maybe we should start moving some of the best stuff from the old forums to here...

I have a bad print out of that post. (My printer was drying out when I did it.) An illegible portion cost me two hours of trouble shooting time not too long ago...

Yes, you're right, there is a lot of good stuff on the old forum. If we don't x-fer it here, we ought to at least save it so that it can be put in the user updated Editor ReadMe.

Whelp, I've got to get to bed now, but when I get back from my morning class in about... 12 1/2 hours... I'll re-post my Timers post and the post about building slopes.

Remember that one? It was my very first post in the old DaC forums :)

Don't worry guys. Even if it's lost I have most of it on my hard drive so eventually we can recover it.
