The New Arroyo city
The New Arroyo city
I was thinking about this for a while.
Fallout 2 ended when they used the GECK to restore Arroyo. Now some big town rests in its place.
What should it be called?
This is considering that you WILL start where Arroyo was, in the neo city in the ending slides.

The Citadel? Why not - it does not really matter for me .
But personally i'd prefer if the plot of Fo3 starts in some more isolated place than florishing city. You know - the game balance reasons. As the New Arroyo dweller you'd have probably acces to various and sophisticated gear just at the beginning. I liked starting with nothing in Fo2 or just basic items like in Fo1, but I don't want to start with a gun in Fo3.

And I'd prefer more tribals and less laws. That's what the whole Fallout universe is about. And lets make one thing clear - no NCR nor San Fran in Fo3. At least not the way they appeared in Fo2.Valdis wrote:more laws and less tribals.

Save me, OTB!
Save me!
How about New Arroyo being destroyed by the main enemy and you being the last survivor? - easier solution, isn't it.Pyro wrote:how about arroyo being a really shit run-down town, because the elder was to old to run it properly.
It wouldnt be to bad to start there, you'd have to dig around for good items and stuff.
Once, Arroyo is taken over by some shit, your first quest would be to escape from that city. And the main one - to re-take it, and get rid of that shit... What do you say?

Vault city wasn't that advanced...
Just have some crap at the beginning about how arroyo started to use the slave-trade with the den, and the slaves rebelled. A bomb exploded in arroyo HQ and killed the elder, and all the slaves.
Shortly afterwards a man took over, but was killed by assasins. A new leader seems to take position every few months, only to be mysteriously killed.
I think arroyo should look like shady sands did, except with buildings caved in and with holes in, and give the arroyans a mentality similair to vault city, but make them a bit more sneaky (They could be something like a toy-store owner who has a sweat-shop in his basment, or mabye a spy from ncr)
Also if you dig around, you should be able to find some decent weapons and at least a leather jacket. (Vault 13 (FO1) and arroyo were both crappy excuses for towns)

A Shady Sands? Is that all what society of V13 dwellers and native Arroyans managed to build? Just watch the outro. Tech knowledge of V13 dwellers combined with Arroyans surviving skills gave the beginning to thriving community.Pyro wrote:I think arroyo should look like shady sands did
New Arroyo is highly advanced, democratic and flourishing society - it must be destroyed somehow. And you are the grand son of the original Chosen One, the last survivor of some great cataclism or war that destroyed your native land. That's how i see it.

Um...yeah. Why not shady sands? If it's been blown up at least once, and all the assasination attempts over the years the towns going to look pretty shit.
The V13 dwellers wouldnt exactly all be mechanics. They may have manuals though, so some buildings would have machinery and stuff inside it, but not much (it wouldnt be cheap to make)
I'm thinking a bit like a 3rd world kind of town, with the odd weapon lying in soem rubble and a few bit of dust-covered machinery in abandoned areas.
Your first 'quest' could be to escape the town after the walls collapse around the entrance. You could blow it up, ask an engineer to blow it up for you or go through the dreaded temple of trials, now full of machinery and robot spore plants.

Well, I don't think New Arroyo has to be that advanced just because of the ending slide pic. I think it should be much like Shady Sands, with more tribal resemblance. Remember, Vault City got most of their hi-tech stuff from their Vault, not GECK.
We don't even know 'New Arroyo' is gonna appear in Fallout 3.

Shady Sands was created by V15 dwellers. V15 was designed to be opened (according to FoB) 50 years after the great war. The war was in 2077 so they started to build their town in 2127. The action of Fo1 starts on 5 dec 2161 at 7.21. What I'm leading up to is that had only 34 years to build up their city. The location wasn't lucky either - total desert, it's suprising that they managed to survive. Only when Aradesh came to power, they created NCR.
Arroyo has perfect conditions to give the beginning of flourishing community. And they have a very responsible leader, that will certainly provide them to glory and greatness - The Chosen One. And also I suppose they'll have more time than Inhabitants of V15 and something they'd certainly missed - necessary surviving skills of native Arroyans.
