Another Fallout Tactics mod on the way

Post by Kreegle »

[ -> N/A]

Crow [Koffa] has sent along word of a new FOT mod in the works, named "Awakened". It features:

about 50 locations

new items

F1 feeling

new game physics

more realism

quests, quest and quests...

quasi-CRPG
F1 feeling! Great, I wonder if Schumacher is going to make an appearance!

Interestingly enough, they've actually got a release date for it as well (6 / 12 / 2002), so this one might even see the light of day! What a shock that would be...

You can find out more about it by visiting the Awakened homepage. Cheers Crow!

Nice, they seem to be almost ready. Most mod projects barely even get started properly. Screenshots look interesting, but I'd rather see more in-game screenies.

Yes, they're almost ready. They've already got a beta version and are testing multiplayer now.

Incredible! 50 locations?! A crpg feel. It sounds very promising and I am definitely interested in it. It seems like they could use an english proofreader though.

I agree that it sounds interesting. I definitely wish them luck, although at 200 mB I'm not sure I'm going to dl it, thanks to my 56k (read: string-and-tin-can) connection.

I'm glad to see someone's out there working on putting all of those nifty FO items in the game, although I hope that they drop all of the RW weapons that I saw in the screenies.

RW = Real World

I think that any mod trying for that "Fallout feel" should get rid of weapons like the Walther MPL I saw in one of the screenshots.

Well, even FO1 and FO2 had some real world weapons...

FO had exactly two; namely, the Mauser 9mm and the Desert Eagle .44. The former was appropriate to the setting by virtue of its age, and the latter was a gag, since if you read the description you'll find that they refer to it was one of the most popular guns of all time thanks to an interest in late 20th century films.

FO2's RW weapons weren't added so much for their value in enhancing the setting as they were because fans who didn't take time out to take a good, long, hard look at the setting cried for them. Why is there an experimental British assault rifle available? Why is there a British squad automatic weapon available?

I know it's hard to come up w/new weapons, especially if you don't have a competent artist on board. However, there are already plenty of weapons in the FO universe, there's no need to fall into the same trap that the FoT designers did originally by including 150 or so weapons in the game.

The real problem is just that since the Fallout history diverged from real world history shortly after World War II (according to the Fallout Bible), it just makes no sense to have any real world guns from after World War II in Fallout. Sure, it's possible that an alternate reality might have created the same weapons, but it's not plausible.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

In Fallout World, for example, P90 was created by H&K instead of FN :).

Eh? They must have one l33t coder on the team ([brown_nose]Red, perhaps?[/brown_nose])

At the darkness inside.

Regardless of where we hide.

:P Yeah I was wondering about that too?! Maybe they increased the gravity or made all of the surfaces frictionless?
