I think what they mean is setting your character on "auto-merchant" and leave the computer for a few hours. Then when they return, you'll be able to see how many customers came and how much they bought, and of course how much money you've earned. That's where the smarts is, the wasteland is a huge source of cash. Rich people everywhere, but nowhere to spend their money. So a few ads in the back pages of some mainstream magazines, and people will flock to your shop, and buy your shit. And the more you sell, the higher will your merchants skill get. So at some point you'll become the master merchant, and you can sell everything for 10 million dollars. And who needs to save the world when you've got 10 million dollars? You could just buy 100 of every weapon, armor and drug in the world, and put it all in the trunks of your 100 newly bought cars and just drive off and do... absolutely nothing.
How can that not be fun?

And that makes a game better... ?Rat Keeng wrote:I think what they mean is setting your character on "auto-merchant" and leave the computer for a few hours. Short, temporal jobs are fine, but they could be in form of quests.
People do not seem to understand that Fo is only a game. The main purpose of a game is to bring you fun. It does not need to "brush your teeth", it just needs to be funny to play. It's not going to be funny as long as there are any restricts like "no, you can't do that because you have no time". Fo is a kinda game that should allow you to do whatever you want. Wanna be a shopkeeper - here ya go! cesspit diver - no prob, whatever you wish. That's what a PERFECT game should be like.Spazmo wrote:"Chosen One, you must move quickly! We need you to destroy the evil ones before our people are destroyed!"
"I don't have time for that! We're behind schedule on three shipments and Mr. Johnson is making me stay all night to finish this paperwork!"
Wow, fun.
And who mentioned anything about Diablo2?
I like BIG guns...
Of most of the threads on this forum, this has to be one with the least thought put behind its inception, ever.
Hey, does anyone FOR this idea have a clue as to the setting of Fallout, and the theme/premise? Or are they wanting to skullfuck it a la FOOL, which is what this reeks of, a piss-poor FOOL idea.
Of course, let's not forget this gem.
Sure...mutants are threatening the Vault, the Vault is running out of water, I'm supposed to save the world...but let's just stop somewhere and do a job for no purpose whatsoever. :roll:Meths wrote: (snip a while load of garbage without knowledge of game design)

And probably more than you ever will.
And who says YOU know how long I'VE been around? Are you the Final Word?
No.
You don't know me
don't want to know me.
You don't know how long I've been around here.
Ever heard of NAME CHANGES?
And how does it not fit into the setting? You form your character the way YOU want to form him/her/it.
And being a drone of a fuckwit doesn't make you "better" than anyone else.

When you post stupid crap, like that on the FOOL forum, you definitely presented yourself as a clueless newbie. Hey, if you don't like to resemble such, don't do it.Valdis wrote:And probably more than you ever will.

Zzzzzzz....You don't know me

Well, unless you back that up, I'll consider it on the same level as this idea. A load of garbage. You don't know how long I've been around here.

If you don't have a clue about the setting, go get one. As I've pointed out, how fucking stupid is it for the Chosen One or Vault Dweller to set up a shop somewhere when the OBJECT OF THE FUCKING GAME is in more danger the longer they procrastinate. And how does it not fit into the setting? You form your character the way YOU want to form him/her/it.
Hey, he's not a drone. He just happens to think you're dumb as a brick, too. Also, it's fairly hypocritical for you to call someone a fuckwit, don't you think? And being a drone of a fuckwit doesn't make you "better" than anyone else.

More useless drivel, and I see you can't be bothered to scrape enough intelligence together to create a good rebuttal against my previous post.Valdis wrote:Oh I bow to you! Master of power and flaming!
Also, you might want to note it was you that started with the flaming, with the fuckwit remark. I pointed out that this idea was crap, as were your other ideas.
Kid, why don't you stop wasting bandwidth already?

Rosh? Good idea?
Are you joking?
Rosh is the great-grand fallout daddy of Autisim, flaming and overall pretentious ignorance!
While I agree that setting up a shop or something along those lines is wholly uneeded in the FO universe, Rosh, remember that Valdis is innocent of stupidity until proven guilty. And that cannot be proven until he posts similar topics in quick succsesion.

Oh, wonderful. Now we go to hyperbole and mouth-stuffing. You might like to note that I didn't say "anything", or even went to that level of quantification.Valdis wrote:If you don't think that anything I've ever posted was intelligent,
No, I'm still waiting for an explanation of your earlier bullshit. As Deathy noted, I've come up with far better ideas, earlier, and more often than you've ever appeared to here. Such concepts as making Science, Repair, and other neglected skills into having more role in the world, and having cause to tag them.why don't you tell me what you think is a good idea.
Well, it wouldn't surprise me that you wouldn't have seen any of them. Perhaps I should put in "DOOOMIII ROOLEZ!!" into those posts, so you'd notice them? Or were they too long for your attention span?Dipshit wrote: Rosh? Good idea?

Besides, I'vebeen around since the old DAC. No, not the Gamespy one. The Fallout2.net one, at Iplaygames. I've also been around NMA since it was opened, too. V13, I had a number of posts that detailed making some skills more useful, while adding to the setting at the same time.
Not this "We should be able to set up a 7-11" bullshit.
Oh, look. Here comes Captain Clueless to save the day. While I agree that setting up a shop or something along those lines is wholly uneeded in the FO universe, Rosh, remember that Valdis is innocent of stupidity until proven guilty. If anyone is autistic here, it would be Valdis for posting stuff that doesn't fit into the Fallout mechanics, blissfully uncaring. Let's not forget that FOOL thread, Sparky.

I DID go to Fallout2.net but never posted there. I went there daily-YES I did.
I switched forums in early 1998. Joined a Fallout forum in 1999. Then I actually started getting involved. 2001 I went to the GameSpy DaC forums and posted daily. I also posted on the Vault 13 forums.
I could've been around more, but I started getting interested in the real world.
And maybe some of my posts were stupid. Trial and error.

You might want to work a little better on the dates in your lie. Something doesn't quite match up.Valdis wrote:I switched forums in early 1998. Joined a Fallout forum in 1999.
Ah, an edit:
Daily, when the news was sporadic at best? Then you would have known me from the forums.I DID go to Fallout2.net but never posted there. I went there daily-YES I did.
Nope, still definitely a newbie compared to me. While I don't normally get into seniority contests of that sort, you still display a good sign of cluelessness of game setting and design. And you've made it show, if not repeatedly every day, them by grotesque examples. Then I actually started getting involved. 2001 I went to the GameSpy DaC forums and posted daily. I'm also curious if your "changed names" claim has any weight to it, or if it's a fabrication.
This one's a real winner. Even CBR can see how obvious that is. :roll:And maybe some of my posts were stupid. Trial and error.
